I am ordering a new engine, any advice?
My engine isn't tunable. I believe it's an apex seal. So... I am ordering a new engine and re-building my current one later. Anyone know where I can get the absolute best deal? Price isnt really an issue, but I want to keep my cost as low as possible so I can replace tons of other parts.
Good luck man. If you happen to need any help I will assist with any troubleshooting or brainstorming (if you need help that is). I also have some spare engine parts if you happen to need them while rebuilding.
Very cool!
Thanks I appreciate the help, I'll keep that in mind. Now on a different topic, about your avatar... it's cool. My wife saw it and liked it as well. I am a 'UFO enthusiast' sort of.

There is a vendor and good guy/bad guy forum so you can go there and check out the ratings for the various engine builders. I'd check that out and then go from there, but be aware that there are alot of cheap engine builders out there, and when you're talking rotary, you really get what you pay for. If you want the engine to last the longest, you want new rotor housings along with all new seals.
Good luck.
Thanks, Ill keep that in mind. I found a place in Wash. state, said they could ship it in a couple of days. I am going to go with another 12A, dont want to spend any extra time right now messing with mods. I am going to do alot of looking around to see who has the best deal, but like you said, and I am a firm believer, you get what you pay for, and that is so true.
Not sure on 12A housing cost, but I believe the rotary aviation video explains that a 13B housing (one) costs ~800. Thats a pretty big chunk o' change. On the other hand, they would be a brand new housings.

Have you checked with Malloy? I got a BRAND NEW (not a reman) motor last month. He might still have one or two left. The number is 888-533-3400 ask for Ray Crowe. They are 13B.

13b
Cool, so far, I have called all over the Quad Cities, no one here is very familiar with the Rotary, which I already sort of knew. I am about to take a crash course. Waiting for a call back from the guy in Virginia, I am going to order an engine today, and start taking mine out. Thanks for all of the info, its great. I dont want a boinger and cannot stand driving my wife's minivan much more. (the soccer ball on the side windows are killing me)

Staying 12a up front will be cheaper but a 13b would be easy if you stay carb'ed. You will need a GSL-SE front cover and oil pan. Then you need to modify your engine mounts. A 13b would give you more Hp although I had a 12a with 200 hp.
If you get a motor either 12a or 13b get it streetported, if you go 13b, order a lightweight flywheel to match the year of the 13b motor since you will need a flywheel. Get a good clutch and then your good to go.
Of course a header and exhaust system will even give you more power.
There was a Weber 45 on e-bay if you go 12a that would bolt up to it anf give you tuneable power.
Good luck and keep us posted.
JUST tt: Ray Crowe, quoted $2200.00 for new/reman 12A. Said 13B is a bit more. So Im going with the 12A. Now I need to order all new valves and vacuum lines (the good ones) He is honest enough to advise getting a printout of compression test before placing the order. So... looks like Im off to a dealership here that has the equipment to do that. I really appreciate everyones advice and input! All of you 'guys' are awesome. What a cool community to be a part of. I will post pics of the new engine and accesories when its done, (in a couple of weeks)

www.atkinsrotary.com Good product for a good price. I purchased mine there a couple of years ago and still running strong as ever.

Judge Ito, awesome guy, but maybe a bit backed up right now.

I have torn down many many engines from many many "reputible" builders
lets think about it this way, I have never had the pleasure to tear down an engine from any of the aforemented builders... because the ones they built, that ended up in my area have NEVER FAILED.
something i cannot honestly tell you about some other "reputible" builders.
there is one that I have found is notorious for spinning bearings....in stock rebuilds... which i dont understand how this can happen in an engine where the bearing has an index tab to hold it into place.
I could see a hardcore race engine without set-screwed bearings spinning, but stock??
for ***** sake those people could atleast throw some lock-tite between the bearing and rotor. AHHHH [/rant]

Kevin Landers builds a good budget motor. I have 1k miles on mine that he built so i don't know alot about his motors other than he has built several motors for club members. Speak up if you have a landers rebuild and post the milage on your motors.
I think it would cost you 1500 with shipping and rebuilding. That would be your cheapest route unless you buy a used motor.

As for the reman engines, Ray gets some feedback from customers, but you could easily read the comments in the forum. The quality has varied over the years. Often, people get them ported right away, so if there is any problem it is usually evident when the engine is opened up. I don't know whether the 12A engines are new or remans, but the 13B are brand new.
man, my buddy just got a street ported 13b from atkins and it is bad ***. if you are going to be modifing the exaust and carb you really should get a street ported motor. my advice is talk to atkins.
Porting
well... decided on another 12A, just want to drop it in as soon as possible. Im going to get both intake and exhaust ported. Cant wait to run it and see what difference it makes. I talked to Ray Crowe in Virginia, am placing my order on Tues or Wed. Am also replacing all of my valves and vacuum lines, going with silicon color coded lines from my Victoria British mag. *should* be decent when Im done a a couple of weeks. The 13B seemed to be too much hassle right now to modify mounts and stuff, might look for one to rebuild myself and try it then. I appreciate the references everyone gave, helped more than I can say. I just get sort of sad when I look in the garage and see my car just sitting there.
