I..........am new.

Yep, im new to this forum and new to the rotary. I just picked up an 85 GSL at auction for $325,(cause the choke cabel was disconnected, which i knew about but no one else did, do it kept dieing cause it was cold, so no one bid on it. lucky me.) Anyways, i love this car, more than my truck and my 280 ZX. But what i really want to know is when do the apex seals typically go out, and what are the warning signs? Its got 167K on the odometer, but other than the clutch/tranny making noise(i think its a thorwout bearing) I havent noticed anything. So any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. They can last forever if taken care of. It all depends on how well the car was taken care of. A misused car will generally go out sooner than a well serviced car. As for signs of apex seals going out. THere really aren't any. Most that I have read about just happen. You can be on WOT, or just crusing along the highway. It can happen anytime.

its in miles. And ive been wondering how the inside of the rotor "cylinder" (dont know tech. name) gets lubricated. In shop class we have a 13B that is in pieces, and i saw too little injector looking things that corresponded to two holes on the inside of the cylinder. So do rotarys burn oil like a two stroke or what?

Welcome, your just up the road from me. Which auction? If you want you can come down and we'll do a compression check to see the condition of the motor. 1st thing, change oil and do a tune up, spark plugs cap and rotor etc. Good price. I picked up my -SE at an auction in Puyallup $400, mine needed some work though. Welcome again.

They are fed oil through oil injection, yes, but are also oiled through the oil system.

I took out my oil injection system in lieu of running pre-mixed gasoline and 2 stroke oil.

I got it at Stokes Auction, up near Port Orchard, last weekend. And ya, as soon as i get the money (or i talk it out of my dad), i was already going to change oil and do a tune up. The OEM plugs are 6 bucks a piece., but is there a better plug that i can get?

The only con I can see with premixing is having to buy the oil and then remembering to put it in your tank. I would rather just stay with the stock oil injection system.

BTW, I don't see any pros either to premixing. Unless your oil injection system isn't working, there is no sence in premixing, IMO.

Go with OEM plugs. Any other plug will foul up fast from what I have read.

Funny, I drove by stokes last friday on my way to the Airport junkyard and was thinking of stopping, glad I didnt, thats all I need is another 7 (actually looking at 2 -SE's right now, I'll get one if not both). Yeah, wouldnt that be the **** 4 7's 3 of which are -SE's whoa. Cool man, welcome to rotary land! Let me know if you want to get together and do a comp check. PM.

I think the oil injection goes through oil at 1 quart every 1500 miles or something like that.

It depends on how hard you drive the car.

Oh yeah, run some MMO (Marvels Mystery Oil) through her. Fill the tank and drop 8-10oz in her then drive for a couple of hours, go to Olympia and back, she'll love you for it.
