hydrocarbons. over 1000ppm of them at idle. I need to get it down to 460 to pass aircare.

all the rats nest hoses seem to be hooked up, the car runs just fine. tried advancing the timing, and they went waay down. but is it not dangerous to run full advance? should i put in some higher octane fuel if i do? retarding the timing made it much worse. isnt it supposed to be the other way around?

Well, my dad used to put high grade alcohol in his tank before he went for his emmissions testing.... you could give that a shot.

well if you can run tons of timing and pass, then reset it to normal then thats ok.

check your acv, there is a hose that goes to a grey thing on the air cleaner, make sure there is no air coming out of this hose below about 2500rpms

All else fails pour some denatured alcohol in the fuel tank. You can buy it at KMart. Run the car hard, heat up the cat good and pull into smog shop.

Less than 28* total timing @ 4000rpms is fine. Most Pro7 racecars use 24-28*. Although I'm hesitant go over 24* personally, especially in heat.
