how to tell year/model of engine
the '79-80 engines have a smaller rats nest with only 3-4 vacuum switches, the later models have like 5-7 I beleive. Also, the older (79-80) engines have an extra little opening in the block on the exhaust sealing surface for the thermal reactor. It's about the size of a nickel I beleive... There's more things I'm sure, that's all I can remember right now...

I asked the same question a couple of months ago and received a few responses with photos. Use the forum search function and use "Series 4 and series 5" in the search.
If I recall, the series 5 engine has an extra hole drilled and tapped above the spark plugs.
good luck

I have the holes above the spark plugs. I have been given conflicting information, some say this means it is out of a s5 some say all turbos had these?

I don't know if it was on all turbos or just the S5 ones.
