How to tell if motor is ported
Ok so i have been a member here for a short while. Although have been a rotary owner for many years. I picked up my latest toy a 84, seems to have been someones baby. Short shifter header rats nest removed. It sounds like no other rotary i have ever owned in the sense it has a mild lope at idle. Was maybe wondering if this beast had been ported out. Whats a good way to tell outside of stripping her down?

Feel inside the intake ports. Check to see if they feel larger than normal, if the casting flash is still there or not, and if the runner surface feels smoother than it would if it were cast.
For the exhaust ports, you're mainly feeling for size and shape. if there is curvature on the bottom or (hopefully not) the top of the port, it isn't stock.

A proctologist might be able to tell the difference, but if you're not very experienced with these motors I doubt you will.
I would advise you to go with plan #1. Take a video at idle, and revving, and upload to Utube, then post the link here. Very simple, and you will get many expert opinions as a result...

Hold on a minute. Seattle, eh? should be a good number of rotorheads in your area. I think Killnocone might be from around there, for one. Offer to buy some beer, and I'm sure their curiosity alone will bring them over to see what you've got. Good luck.

check the intake and exhaust ports with your fingers. for a streetport, if you don't have any stock housings to do a tactile comparison with, then the lack of casting flash is probably going to be your only clue. bridges are pretty easy to identify simply because you can feel the bridge. if you've ever seen a stock exhaust port, you'll have no trouble telling a ported a exhaust.
if your engine turns out NOT to be ported, check your fuel mixtures.
