Rusted exhaust repair options?

so the previous owner of my car parked it on dirt/gravel and the exhaust system
has some pretty heavy rusting going on. i think its mostly surface rust but parts of
it may have started to compromise the strength of the metal. i'll get a pic or two
tomorrow so you can see what im talking about a little better. i know the best way
to go with this is replacing the whole thing but i dont really want to. it still
funtions great and would be a bit out of my price range right now. its a full
racingbeat streetport style (dual presilencers) system. i thought about a light scraping and painting
with the highest temp paint i can find. anybody have experience painting exhaust?
i know it will require very special paint, and i dont know if it would be worth the
cost. but still, it would be cheaper than a new exhaust. i'm just looking to protect
what i have, and try to get the most life out of it.

lucky me the rest of the underbody was coated so it didn't suffer the same fate.
