How To: Strip Down A Nikki Carb
#51
Well that's not a simple question to answer because when you modify the Nikki carb I be leave it's an all or nothing mod. If you make the make it flow more air you need more fuel but I have been told the big power gain is in the Nikki carb mod and the direct fire ignition mod and you gain more from an MSD box than you do with running 3 stock coil setup.

Power gains should be done in this order:
1. Header and free flowing exhaust
2. Better intake (modded nikki, weber, dell etc)
3. Better fuel flow with aftermarket pump and regulator
4. Ignition mods (DFIS, MSD, standalone) in that order.
5. Electric fan
6. Making the car lighter ( although some may say do this first)

Anyone here offering modding service for Nikkis? As mechanically inclined as I feel I am, I am not comfortable doing this. I do have a lathe and a small mill and can help with some of the machining.
I am on the fence as to whether doing the Nikki or buyong a Racing Beat... Would love to save some money though..

Stripping my Nikki too!
So I decided to strip mine out as well so far I got some of the stuff out but was wondering about some of the details. Mine is from a 1980 with the manual choke so it looks a bit different than the pics and the parts are slightly different too. Like the lack (I think) of the altitude compensation valve....
What do I do with the following solenoids? Can they be completely removed? Do I need the rods to stay in there with springs?
[IMG][/IMG]
Also I removed the front and rear chokes but there is still this choke-looking thing attached, I assume it is the manual choke? Should I remove the manual choke as well?
[IMG][/IMG]
Should I leave these in, connected, disconnected? I did break the wire on the top one...
[IMG][/IMG]
What about this thing, held by three screws and has a plunger and spring in it?
[IMG][/IMG]
Once all this emissions stuff is removed, can the wires be cut off and taped into the harness? Right now I have these connectors just dangling around.
Thanks for the help
