how NOT to take off a flywheel
how NOT to take off a flywheel
trying to take a flywheel off last night to swap it to my new engine,
damn flywheel was stuck, tried pulling with a puller, no good,
tried prying, no good,
tried hitting it with a hammer, no good
so then we bring out the oxy torch
ended up comming off really great, except for one thing,
we forgot to take off the oil cap, sump plig, and spark plugs.
as we heated up the flywheel, it also heated up what little oil remained i the engine.. which built up enough pressure to blow the oil cap off and smake my mate ni the middle of his forehead from 10 METRES AWAY!!
left a pretty decent bruise too!
needless to say when we went to get the counter balancee off the other engine, ALL possiable plugs came out
-Cheers

I had the same problem with my flywheel, so I took out the BFH and while there was still tension on the flywheel by the T-bar, smacked the head of the bolt of the puller and the flywheel jumped off of the shaft about an inch and it was completely free. I think my flywheel has been on my rotary for at a minimum of 10 years.

I had my engine pulled and had the same problem with my flywheel. I ended up using a bar stuck between the flywheel and engine, swung a semi ratchet at it (basically a baseball bat), still didn't come. I stepped back a few feet, got a running start, swung as hard as i could, flywheel dropped to the ground, bar flew across the garage and stuck in the wall.

so its like a ratchet gun?
you have to hook it up to a compressor?
if its one of tose, then yeah, we used that to get the nut off.. but getting the actual flywheel off is alot harder
maybei know what it is but just call it a different thing

I had similar issues. I needed a flywheel off of a dead motor. After removing the retaining nut, I used a puller. It didn't move and further tightening of the puller cause the puller itself to bend and crack! So, we figured we would hit the puller bolt progressively harder with BFH.
The second whack, the flywheel really became a "fly wheel" - it went about four feet out of the trailer and into the side of the house! The damn thing woke his wife up, and left a big gash in the siding and sheathing.
Fortunately, his wife is used to car repair incidents and just looked at us, shook her head, and went back inside.
