ignition probems
ok, i have a few different sets of distributer caps, rotors, and plug wires. Also my car has a funky/weird idle, so i decided to try swap my cap and rotor for another one.
first time i started the car, it immediately idled A LOT better(usually it it doesnt idle until it is warmed up, then it hunts from 400-1500 rpm)
i went driving it, and just enough throttle to keep it at a constant speed, it misses like crazy!!! as in you have to give it a little more throttle to keep going.
also it feels faster up until 6500, then it dies off, before it had a more linear power band till 7500.
anyone know what the heck it is doing?
also, this is an 84 GSL-SE

Adjust your TPS to see if it's correct, most likely that will take care of the hunting your describing. Who knows it might handle more problems than just that.
You don't happen to have a leaky exhaust do you, that might account for the missing. Timing could possibly be off.
I say start with the TPS first, then report back with the old/new problems you might be having.

axhaust leak, yes, one of the wires is ripped out of the intake, so adjusting the TPS doesnt work
the wire that is gone is the one that bolts into the drivers side of the manifold(the only actual wire that is on that side)

well there's the majority of your problems. Exhaust leak will cause your car to backfire like crazy, and the TPS is causing the annoying hunting and most likely your "funky/weird idle."
Replace what wire was destroyed and properly adjust your TPS, then zip up your leaky exhaust. Your might even feel more power since your 5th and 6th port actuators probably weren't getting the proper psi to open up. Then drive around like a badass and raise some HELL!!!

I was reading this forum and I'm not sure if I'm having the same problems, but here it goes. I just had a slightly used rebuild installed in my '83. I'm in a small town and the mechanic has very limited experience with rotaries, but said he could drop it in. The motor I bought was built for IT racing, and supposed to be street legal. It came with an IT carb, dizzy, alt, and hardened gears. However, my mechanic couldn't figure out how to install the motor with these components and reverted to my OEM components instead. The car is exhausting through the carb (nasty idle, and won't run w/o applying throttle). 1st silly question, is this backfiring? 2nd question. Any ideas? I and others are inclined to suspect timing. I'll be checking into this over the weekend. But would appreciate any other thoughts.
