how much would you pay?

I found a '85 GSL today on my way home from work. I had to go home and change into some other clothes and wait until my parents left (they would **** themselves if I showed up with a second 7) before I went to check it out. I got there, and the thing is rusty as hell. The owner rattle canned the car almost the factory color. It's a pretty good rattle can job, but he painted over a bad bondo job and lots of rust. The only good panel on the car is the right front quarter panel and the panel between the hood and windshield. The hood supports are rusted to ****, there is alot of rust along the bottoms of both doors. The left rear quarter panel is all bubbled and cracked, so is the drivers door. The header panel is smashed in, the front bumper cover is trashed. I felt under the car (he parked it in some pretty tall grass and just mowed around it), and I got alot of rust flakes in my hands, both sides. There are pretty big holes around the traction arm that goes from the rear axle to under the drivers seat. In the drivers rear wheel well I could push my finger through the inside of it into the car. I couldn't pull the carpet under the bins because he put in 6x9's and screwed the bins shut. He said that we could push it into his driveway and jack it up so I could look under it. I'll go and take pictures tomorrow and post them tomorrow night. I have to do alot of calc homework tonight.

He has $650/OBO on the window, it has 165k on it and a maroon interior. The bins are trash because of the 6x9's, but the seats have no cracks, the dashboard is mint, and it has hatch louvers. I will be buying it for a spare engine, the nikki carb (to have it possibly boost prepped and rebuilt by sterling or rx7carl), the tranny, and the rear end. He says that it does run, but has been sitting for 5 years. i'm thinking varnish in the tank and lines. The motor mounts are rusted, the radiator mount is rusted, but it does have an exhaust from MazdaTrix (if my memory serves me correctly they just re-badge racing beat exhausts).

I told him straight up that i'm worried about rust around the suspension mounts, and that I couldn't give him an offer until I jacked it up and looked at the rust. He asked me what I would do with it if i bought it, and I told him that if the rust was too bad and it wasn't safe to be on the road (i really don't think that it is) that I'd be pulling the parts out to have spares for my car, not going to sell anything, i'm not in it to make a profit. I'm thinkin about $50 because of the problems that are visible, and the rust that I could feel under the car. What do you guys think?

I would say it is a parts only car. Rear is Worth $150, Running engine is ~$200 with so high a miles. Sounds like all the body panels are worthless. maybe some interior is good.

So Sold it would bring $350 plus $75 for the left over scrap.

$100 is the best I would offer.

I've bought an S3 GS with less rust, but both upper arms were flapping in the wind, for 50, and drove it home.

i will post pictures of the outside and anything i can get from where it sits tomorrow, and then wednesday i will be able to post pictures of the underside when I jack it up to see how bad the carnage is. I hope that it is bad enough that he will take 50 for it so i can get a LSD in the *** end of my car and have a spare motor, spare tranny, and probably sell the MazdaTrix exhaust.

I'd pay $100 for it and part it out minus the parts I want. Be ab;e to make the money back esily. Like I'd take the maroon armrest if ur parting it out.

See how easy it is? lol

Main value is the rear end, trans and engine, base your offer on those, the rest is bonus $.

I've bought 3 GSLs for less than $350 and drove them all home.

It is worth maybe $50 in scrap metal...the rest is in the engine and driveline.....i sent a 7 to the bone yard, it had the front windshield, suspension, drum rear, and 1 space saver spare.....I kept the interior, doors, rear glass, hood, engine, tranny, lights, dashboard...... and the aluminum wheels. They still gave me $55 and some odd cents...and i only paid $140 for the whole car lol
