How much would it cost for original paint job.
How much do you think it would cost to get an orignal looking paintjob for my car.
its a 1984 GSL. like a brownish color, with red interior.
It needs a hole new paint job lol.
ALMOST RESTORED.
just needs hail damage outta the hood and new paint job.

ummm...theres no such thing as an original paint job...maybe the same color as the original paint but not the original...thats why its called factory paint...because it only happens once...as for a paint job in a color like brown...depends on how many coats you get of paint and how many coats of clear you get...for a good paint job that will last a-long time expect to pay at least $1000 + at a good paint shop

How far down do you want to disassemble it? Factory paint is applied before assembly, so to get it 'original' looking, you would need to try to replicate that.
To be practical I would think you would not have to remove the doors, but you would need to paint the door edges, door sills, etc. Then the engine compartment (REMOVE ENGINE AND ALL HOSES, COVER WIRES), the underside of hood. That seems to be the major stuff to me. If you could do all except engine bay, it should look pretty good.
Many paint jobs do not give attention to the door sills/hinges, door edges, under hood, inner fender in engine compartment.
It will be close to original... but if you want a SHOW, then you need to take those extra steps....

if things go like I want them to my uncle will be painting my car(owns a body shop) Everything will come off the car and I mean everything just a blank shell. Then it will be sprayd with 8 base of color A (I think thats how many coats ive got it written down somewhere if i can find it) as many coats of candy B as it needs then alot of clear. Ya Im keeping the color secret but its gonna look nice i have it photoshoped on my comp as to what its gonna look like.
But seeing how he is my uncle and I will be doing most of the work and he will just be spraying I am just paying him $1200 for bay time tool usage and then paint(majority of the cost is right there) no labor charges for me yay.
I would expect a job of this magnitude to go up into the range of a few thousand if its done right by a professional.

I think he means "of comparable quality to the original," which is not a very high standard. I would say--excluding engine removal--$3-$5k, or more depending on the hail damage, and your local labour rates. You generally get what you pay for, so beware of cheap paint jobs.

1000$ for a decent paint job. WELP better start savin up now.
I guess the clear coat coming off on the hood and on the side of the car will look ok for the next 2 years.
But im gonna get new color engine wires for it. and touch up the engine housing's I think thats what they are) black again. make it look like new again.

My RX-3 is currently in the body shop. I completely stripped it down with no motor, tranny, interior and electrical (bundled up). They will sand it down to bare metal and remove/replace/weld whatever needs to be done. $2500 for a 06 corvette yellow but it will be a few hundred less IF i decide to go with a non-yellow paint.

Last week I stopped by a professional body shop to get an estimate on my car for a brand new white paint job and to have all body blemishes removed. For all that good stuff: a real good paint job (including the door jams), mild bodywork (remove dings), taking off the body emblems and replacing them with new ones, and removing the faded trim and dying them to a new black, would cost me at least $5800, estimate. Tho, this is for a through and true bodywork/paint job request. It may vary depending on location and shop, but this was the second shop I went to (they were more professional in appearance and actually gave me a print out with everything of what would be done). The first place I stopped by, the guy just walked around it and estimated $4500-$5000.
I figured it would be around that even before I went asking. So, if you're looking for a new paint job, which would include some mild bodywork, sanding, primering, painting, wet sanding, and buffing, it'd be around $4000-$6000.

I got an estimate of $1300 just to reclear my car......
Thats from the same shop that does all my dealerships work and restored my bosses 66 crustang
I will probably do the clear in the spring after all the salt is gone....

umm you could probally get a half decent mono color for about a grand, if you stay away from certain colors, i usto work in factory and we painted all type of metal, and red is hella expensive it cost us like 75 bucks for like a juice box size of "standerd" red paint, the light colors are the leass expensive usualy, also generally unless you have rust they wont "sand" or "grind" off your paint they use a chemical and some heat to make it come off, its sorda like a overpowerd thinner, and good hell does it stink!!! also it depends on how good of a paint job you want typically you put on 5-6 coats of paint to get that shinny "mirror" gloss but you can specify less or more if you want. hope that was of some help.

also you could look into getting your vehicle wrapped, my work does vehicle wraps that look sick!!! the prices vary but arnt neer as much as paint jobs, so that is something to think about. pm and i could give you more info if you wanted.

Ive done some painting.. sounds good and with 8 coats of color you must have something special in mind besides a factory job. I would assume there would be alot of clear coats also.. One thing from experience and word of mouth... you put to many coats on it gets thick alot of mil. if you get a dent of try and torque something down on the paint it will pop the paint and clear coat... I'm currently working on stripping my car down now for paint, just dont have so much time.
