How much paint?

My FB is almost ready to paint. Does anyone know how much paint I need for two coats if I don't do the engine bay? I figure a gallon should be enough but I would like to hear from anyone who has done it. It would be a drag to run out when you are almost done.

depends on what type of paint you are going to use...are you using a dual stage or single stage? a single stage you'll need around a gallon. with a dual stage you should be able to easily get away with 3 pints of color, and then the according amount for reducer, clear and hardner.

I think driftking meant three quarts of color. Ask the person you are buying the paint from. Some high solids paint cover better than the cheap stuff. I did an FB with just less than 3 quarts of PPG Concept single stage, three coats. Price is different for each color with reds and yellows getting pretty high priced.
Its better to spend the money now and get a good finished product. Also, put more than two coats on if you go with a catalyzed paint so you can shave drips and wet sand orange peal with out worrying about breaking through. Wait about a month to wet sand so any shrinkage doesn't mess up your work later. You can wet sand after about a day but I've found the longer you let the paint cure before you sand the better and at a month you can put wax or polish on it right after buffing.

That all depends are u doing the door jams what is your paint mix (4:1/8:1 or2:1)
is it your first paint job if there is alot of metallics in the paint if so it may take 3 coats or more depending if it's a color change. Best thing ask the place where you buy the paint some places mix the paint themselves they'll know alot about it. trust me I've been working bodyshops for 12years and painted cars for 15years almost everyday every paint is different but remember when painting with spray gun move along the car with your hand not your body or else you risk runs and having to wait till it dries to sand it and start the spot over. goodluck..

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to be using a 3 part Urethane (8:4:1 if I remember right). No metallic in it. It is Mitsubishi Sunset Pearlescent (M03). It is very close to the original Sunset Orange color of the car. That’s why I won’t do the engine bay (for now). I’ll post a few pics when it’s finished.
