How much oil in the tranny?
In short, how much gear oil should go in the tranny.
Long story
I replaced the gear oil in my tranny and according to the manual the tranny takes 1.7L of oil, which isn't near the amount that I drained out origianally. When I unscrewed the plug for the filling point on the tranny oil poured out (the plug is higher up on the side of the tranny) and I then drained out what must have been 2.5-3L easy of old oil from the bottom drain plug. I put in about 1.8-2L of new oil but it still doesn't seem full, the level must be 1/2 inch-1 inch from the filling point.

I'd buy 3 or so US quarts. I believe 2.5 go in... Though I could be thinking of the truck. So many damn things use gear oil on that I went through a case of it once.
When I change the gear oil in any of my cars, I put the car so that the drain plug faces down hill so that I get it ALL out. Then I jack the car way up or turn it around so that the fill plug has an upwards angle. Therefore filling it to the fill plug gets a few extra ounces in.
Just fill 'er up till she's full.
