How much MMO or ATF do you put into spark plug holes?
I have a flooded rotary, with possible timing problems, but I squirted some oil in there and the compression sounded better, but that might be because of the wetness of the sound. Well, im not sure if I put enough in there or if theres a proper way of lubing the seals this way. Anyone wanna chime in what they think is neccessary or does it take very little.
A guy that is helping me put the timing light on L2 and it was perfect with the yellow dot and pointer
Put it on L1 and the timing shows 180 out
Should L1 be on yellow...or does it matter..he says it doesnt matter, the way its firing, it wouldnt matter...any comments..been spending 3-4 hours a day this week trying to figure this mess out!
I have spark from coil...through dist...to the plugs FOR SURE...thats all been checked! Gas, I got plenty of that....now all I need is Compression to make it run....

Rollin' coal and 53mpg!
remove the spark plugs, remove the fuse to the fuel pump. spin the motor with the starter until the gassy fog goes away.
You'll see what I'm talking about.

F*CKING HELL!
Don't use ATF! Especially not to deflood. It only "restores compression" for a short period of time until the oil burns off unless you spend some time and do it properly. Read the decarbonizing article in the Archive.
Chef is right, to deflood all you have to do is remove the fuse for the fuel pump (or you can disconnect it if you have your driver's side bin loose like I do), remove the spark plugs, spin the engine for a few seconds, dry the plugs off, put it all back together and you'll be good.
ATF/MMO is ONLY for unsiezing engines, or for use on seriously carbon'd-up engines.
Check your heynes manual for Timing information. I don't have time to look it up right now but there's plenty of info on here about timing, so I'm sure some folks can help you out.
Sorry about the harsh reply, I'm just amazed that people still "ATF it" when they have flooding problems!

L2 doesn't even have a mark on the pulley. I doubt you've got a remarked pulley in your VW.
Yes, turn your fuel pump off in whatever way is most convenient for you (fuse etc), remove the plugs and crank the engine for a few seconds to remove the excess liquid from the engine. Then dry the plugs and wire brush them while they're out (might as well), maybe use some anti-seize on the threads of the excess fuel washed most of it off the plug holes.
I only use oil to help get a slow cranking or low compression engine to fire. You couldn't pay me to use ATF in any engine.

Last night, we used 2 stroke oil in a little squirter bottle that he uses for his motorcycles, worked great.I think I may have enough oil in there, but we had cranked a total of about 25 seconds before we did the oil, and we didnt blow it out, kinda over looked that. I have blown them out about 6 times or so this week alone, but after cranking it, plugs always look wet. I need to do an in depth deflooding! I disconnected my fuel pump all day yesterday, dont need any more fuel in the carb, it will still squirt, but just in case a needle was stuck or what not, I disconnected the fuel at the start of yesterdays 5 hour ordeal!....Thanks guys for the help

Starting fluid was the key to choke this thing out, got a cough or two, moved the dist a tooth, fired up...bla bla bla..im HAPPY! Starting fluid is my new friend. Sounds like I have a misfire so I thought I could be off a little on timing but if it was off of timing it would back fire correct? Its not backfiring, I did wot and it did pretty good. I may have to play with advancing the timing, the car is smooth, but doesnt seem like it has as much of a kick as it use to. I grabbed/chirped 3rd gear, but it was a smoooth chirp, it use to be a kick sideway a foot or so and make a harsh chirp. One thing is for sure, I have rust in my distributor and my neighbor said that can screw up my timing, sparking off and grounding out or something. Atleast its started, I can play with it from here, If I play with taking out the dist. Im gonna mark it to where it came out so that I have a place to start and go back to if needed...... ahhhhh
