Well...i'm new to the forum, too. I just bought my rx7 like 3 days ago. It's a 1980.

Frankly...to put it in the most simple, commense sense...check and make sure the engine is good. Drives nice...doesn't act all laggy and shaky.

Make sure there is no rust underneath the body, look at the suspension, and frame.

Make sure the car has a clean title and hasn't had frame damage. You dont' want to work with a bent frame...not good.

Make sure tranny is tight, gears shift easily into place.

Other than that, forget about the paint, forget about the interior...that's the extra crap you can always fix. Always make sure the clockwork is intact and you'll be fine

Oh yeah...these are old cars...so have ambition! Make sure you really want this car. Don't go halfway and stop at your project. Go for pro!

Oh yeah....make sure the tires are safe to drive on, when you're taking it home. And make sure there's engine oil, collant, and all the fluids. I know that sounds stupid, but some people dont' even check that stuff and end up stuck in the freeway with a nonregistered, non insured car....in other words...OWNED!
