Newbie eh? Well the most popular response when you are new is *search.* But i'm still somewhat of a newb so i can shed $.02 Not a considerable amount is saved when you remove just the a/c or just the airpump but if you remove all emisions at once then you can feel a slight difference in your Hp. If your a/c works I wouldn't mess with it so you have a/c in the summer time, even though shaving the a/c will also shave about 50lbs (if you remove everything a/c associated) As for the color coded conectors I'm pretty sure you need to modify your carb for that one. But removing the emissions i'm sure will wipe away a few of the conectors if not all.

Shedding the "colour coded connectors" is part of the rat's nest removal tutorial written up by Rx7Carl and Pratch, found here:

This will tell you how to remove all the emissions crap. It really cleans up the engine bay, and helps you find vacuum leaks. Not much power gain, but every hp helps.

the smog pump operates below a certain rpm. iirc it switches off around 2000rpm, so the only loss above that is just the pulley (which acocunts for like a half a horsepower). your peak horsepower stays the same with it on or off.
tho if you remove the smog pump, your sub-2000rpm performance feels much peppier.
