Question How long is too long for a 7 to sit?

How long is too long for a 7 to sit in a garage before I do the old ATF fluid down the carb to lube the seals? I am about to get my '84 from NJ and tow it to South Dakota where I'm stationed. I have to start it to drive it onto my trailer. It hasn't run in probably 2 yrs. Its breaking my heart just sitting there and money is finally getting right and I convinced the wife to let me get it and hook it up.

Oh, and all yall going to the BBQ in NJ, have a blast. When I grew up back that way, my brother and some friends of ours went up to Englishtown and they got some badass 7's around that way.

mine sat in a field for 3 years, put the atf and fress fluids and new battery, but the fuel tank had rusted, that caused the most problems, but it did start up, if you dont have time to mess with it you might get a winch and pull it onto a trailor, good luck and thank you for serving our country...

No amount of time is too long if you are actually going to try and get it started, but If your not then it's been too long, and it needs a new owner.

Good luck on getting it started and welcome to the forum.

Besides the engine, and drivetrain, and gas tank just sitting. You will probally need to change tires. They will develope flat spots in them from sitting in one place

DITTO, mine is the same as donna. i would push it on, as i had 3 people do that to move mine. if that is impossible, at least pour in some marvel mystery oil through the carb prior to firing it up and put some in the tank. that will help protect.

Mine, sat in a indoor air conditioned garage since 1993.
And it is running like a champ for the 300miles that I have drove in these two days. I only change most of the fluids. And new battery, radiator hoses, belts.......of course.

Ha! My '80 sat in the desert for TEN years with no ATF, MMO, etc. treatment. After I unplugged the fuel pickup tube in the tank and swapped out carburetors, I pulled it down my street and it fired right up. That's probably the exception rather than the rule, though. I've since put a couple of thousand miles on it, with no major problems other than the tank needing to be cleaned out, and the motor is the original with about 160k on it.
It runs very well, but I'm planning on a 4-port 13B swap in the Spring, so for now I'm just babying it to get through the winter. This car was given to me and is my first RX7, although I've had a couple of RX4s in years past, and have a '72 RX3 autocrosser project presently residing in my garage.
