how to install s1 steering box in s3?

I was having the worst wondersteer imagineable, so I decided to get a new steering box. I have an 84 and the box came from a 80. I figured they would mount up the same but the column shaft seems to be different and it is making installation very difficult. has anyone ever done this before? I'm thinking that my only option may be to take it back out and swap the guts of the good one into the bad one.

They SA and FB version of the steering boxes are significantly different both outside and
internally I think. You should try to get an 81-85 in one instead if you can. I think the amount of
work to make the 80 work might be more than expected.

the steering boxes aren't S1 and S3.

they use the same box from 79-81.5 and then 81.5-85.

the S1 column is probably different, but you should be able to put the later one on it, as that's what Mazda did in 1981...
