how hot is too hot?

Lets cut down on the BSing and get to the real issue
since its summer is here and temp is big issue, I will give you more than $0.02.
Dont trust the stock gauges, it can cost you $$$$ in the long run as it happened to me years ago. We're dealing with 20+ years car, so no matter what, something will fail. INSTALL A SECOND GAUGE (EITHER AN ELECTRICAL OR MECHANICAL=this is what I prefer since I dont have to rely on electrical issues) for a much accurate opinion. now for mechanical gauges , use autometer, stewart-warner, summit brand, or the $40 triple gauges that I am using (cant remember the brand) as they have sealed t-couple. The t-coupler on cheap *** sunpro and autogage are wrapped with thin wire looms and it will pick up additional heat from the engine. therefore, the temp reading is inaccurate.
FACTS:
RADIATOR FLUSH = will not remove debris or blockage in the radiator. it is used to replace the anti-freeze.
ROD-OUT=more costly than flushing. Radiator will be taken apart, soaked in hot tank, each row will be clean-out using a long thn piece of metal (almost like a spinal tap), re-assemble and will be pressure tested. IF the core is falling apart, MOST radiator shop will not do it and they will recommend you to buy a new radiator.
FAN CLUTCH: good on low RPM use but on freeway speed, cooling relies on ram air. If radiator continues to overheat, you need a ROD-OUT (assuming that all others are in good shape).

Hey, this is turning into a real cool post. Ha Ha, get it, real "cool"? I drove home today from work, the usual 55 mile drive down interstate 85, 80 mph but today with the AC on all the way because it was 90 degrees outside. The temp guage on my tan GSL was a little higher than usual, just above the half way point, but holding steady and the car was happy with all its usualy kick. Seems everybody is watching their temp guages these days.

I rechanrged my K&N filter today and drove around long enough for temp to get as high as 3 quarters like it susualy does, but it didnt, half way mark was its max today. So seems all that stuff I did paid off a little.
