find a bracket or some sort (like a combo wrench) and secure it on the strut insert. then grab a hammer and wack on it. been there.

its not exposed(the old insert) there is just what the assembly is attached to and at the top of that is a flat surface almost like a nail head(long strut then flat surface) with a hole through the middle for the shinny part of the strut to get through..

The "flat surface" unscrews and everything pulls out the top of the strut body. Use a large pair of ViseGrips/Channel Locks.

It should be obvious. Think of it as a cap on the end of a pipe.

if its the cap, then do what they said OR, I personally use 2 pipe wrenches. One in the body to keep it from moving and the other to unscrew the strut cap. My first reply is used IN CASE, the old inset doesnt slide out. Be sure to add pour some oil in the strut housing.

My Koni's came with new caps, so I used a hammer and chisel to break the old ones loose since I didn't need them.

Hammer and chisel is the way to go, then a pipe wrench. The old struts don't really have "inserts"; they're the wet type where the housing is the outer wall of the strut. I got a lesson when I tried this myself a few months ago.

The new struts should have come with a new cap. I dunno if the old cap will fit. Oh and you did pour oil into the strut body before you put in the cartridge right?
