How do I tell if my rotary is safe to start

Just got the car and want to try and start it how do I tell If it's safe and won't blow up

There is no way to tell if it will blow up, but you can check to ensure it spins freely using force of the front pulley. You ALWAYS want to spin it clockwise if using a wrench and never force it. You can also remove the exhaust manifold and inspect each apex seal. Before starting, you can add some oil to the top sparkplug holes to ensure some extra lubrication. It will also help seal an engine that hasn't ran in some time.
