How to dispose of a stripped shell
How to dispose of a stripped shell
Everything's off my donor SE that I want (if someone wants brown leather door panels or trim, last chance....). I know that some places will pay to junk a car so they can sell the scrap, but how do I arrange that? The car has no engine, suspension or wheels, so it'll probably take a flatbed.. Will they come pick up cars, and where do I look?
that would be scrap metal. if you scrap the car they will probablly want a valid title.
i know peeps who cut the car into smaller parts and throw it inthe back of a truck, bring it to the scrap yard. but you have to dispose of the vin plates first.
plasma cutter, blow torch, or 4.5" angle grinder with a metal cutting wheel works well for this

Someone, somewhere could use a shell to fix theirs ya know. I put mine into storage. Please dont destroy it. Post a free gimme here, www.improvedtouring.com, www.mazspeed.com . Im sure you find someone to take it off your hands.
Carl and Brian - I agree completely. Let's not take shells out of circulation if they're usable.
OTH, if you are going to cut the car apart and the wheel wells are in good shape I'd be very interested.

Okay, the shell isn't usable. The engine harness has been cut out, there's no engine, suspension, tranny, wheels, heat shielding, driveshaft, or instrument cluster. The engine puked a rear rotor and the guy cut everything to get it out, then sold it with the car anyway. The body has up to 2" of bondo in front of the doors. Guys, the thing was toast to begin with and I grabbed nearly everything of value to turn my junker into a nice one. There are plenty of cars in better shape and this one no longer has any value. I hate junking it and I look at junkyards like cemetaries like y'all do. I just have nowhere to put it. I'm moving home in 4 days (1,000 miles) and something's gotta happen.
have fun with a saws-all (sp?) then thow it in the back of a truck, go to a local dump and for about $10-15 you can dump it. they will ask you what it is just say scrap metal. and they will let you in. no problem.

oh and dont think of it as an end, think of it as a beginning, i mean think of the shiney new honda it will become, errr Im making it worse aint I, hope to god it dont become a GM
I'm almost at the completely gutted stage with my FC shell. Can they pull it up on a flatbed without the wheels? Will a junkyard still take basically just a SHELL of a car? I have to figure out what to do since I'm almost finished gutting the thing.
Most junkyards around here won't touch a car unless it's got pretty much everything on it, but Scrapyards will, as they can melt the steel and aluminum down.
If you call a scrapyard, usually they'll have a tow truck/flatbed, and will take the shell away for the cost of the towing... then they sell the raw materials to the scrap yard for $100 per ton (for steel) and more for aluminum.

But it's a good point to keep the shells in circ if they're in good shape.
Alot of the 1st gen 7s out there have horrible wheel well rust or other problems, and if someone guts a 7 with minimal rust problems, it can always be completely stripped down, sanded, primed, repainted and rebuilt into a 7.
Of course if there's plenty of bondo as you say, and it's already been gutted, yeah I guess you could scrap it

But make sure it's a lost-cause shell first. If someone had a minimal-rust-and-bondo shell around here I'd jump in an instant for it. It'd become my new project car. I've always wanted to start with ONLY the frame/chassis/mounts and build an off-the-factory-floor-but-way-better 7. From the ground up, perfect.

ive got a shell in good condition in my garage that weve been planning on scrapping.. i would like to have it out in the next few weeks as tearing down my rx-7 this winter i will need a garage
the last rx-7 that we had to get rid of we did cut it into little peices.. we have a video of it.. afterwards we dumped the body parts in various dumpsters around the city and then played bowling for jackstands and had a bbq... interesting day
anywho.. if any of you guys need a rust free straight shell let me know and you can have it!

I had a parts car '87 Sport. It was beyond repair, too much body damage. The only good thing it had were the tranny, the 5 lug conversion and the bigger brakes so I posted it up online for free to anyone who picks it up. 5 people were actually interested.
So this guy with a lifted Suburban ties the FC onto it because we needed to get it out of the garage. Man, I actually drove the engine less FC for about less than a block and it was fun.

I have 2 shells i'm trying to get rid of 1 81 w/ suspension disck rear, ect. no-one will come get it. I have an 86 gxl with rear end and that's it and no-one wants it.......cut em up and ditch i guess...
see but once you cut it up people are like "oh why did you do that" blah blah
but in reality people like us with the shells cannot find anybody that wants the shell and so we get stuck with a bunch of junk metal in our backyards...
im giving this shell that i have one week to find a home.. otherwise im going to sell it to the scrapyards or give it to them whatever they want

I have two parts cars I will be junking soon. I plan on calling the Kidney Foundation or similar "donate your car" charity.
Supposedly they take cars that are not running, without titles, etc. We'll see how that works. There were still be a few marginal parts on both...but everything I want is off. Oh, and they will both roll, albeit on flat tires.
Oh, yea, both shells are toast...one has serious body/frame damage, the other is a rust bucket from Minnesota.
