How to clean up wiring?
I've gotten my engine bay pretty well cleaned up, however two gremlins still exist. I've removed the rats nest but I have not taken out the couplers that go onto the solenoids. How is this done? Also, how can crank case venting be done in the cleanest-looking manner? I followed Carl's rats nest tutorial and that left me with kind of haphazard and messy vacuum lines for the crankcase venting.

Unfortunately you need the crankcase ventilation, and aside from running the line along the firewall, the only other intelligent route is straight across the engine bay. You could use stainless braided line to make it look prettier, but that's about it. I only have two lines going over my engine, that's the vacuum line for the dizzy, and the crankcase vent hose going to the carb. I also have two ground wires on the housings going to the strut tower, but those won't be there after the rebuild, that's just a band-aid. I don't know what solenoid couplers your referring to, so I can't even begin to help you there.

If your talking about the colored plugs that connected to the back of the solenoids in the rats nest, you can "de-loom" and unplug them, or just trace them back into the harness and cut them. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. If your using an aftermarket carb, you wouldn't need them anyway.

Oh ok, It's been a while since I've had those in there. I yanked those bad boys out with the rats nest. They aren't needed either unless you have cruise and want to keep it. In that case the mazspeed.com tutorial shows how to keep it. Otherwise yank them and put the emissions assembly up for sale in the classifieds. Some poor guy that has to have his car emissions tested may need some of it, and you'll soon become their best friend if you can help.

Simple. Remove all vacuum lines, then run one for the dizzy and one from the nipple on the oil filler tube to the base of the carb (to avoid the lung mustard). That's all I run for vacuum lines, and it works great.
