how to:cheap short shifter

I tried this recently,worked great

get a shifter from a 2nd gen
there is a joint in between the ball and the **** at the top. The joint is filled with some rubber crap, and the two parts will be hard to pull apart.
when you get them pulled apart, clean off the rubber on the rod that sticks out of the ball.

then get a clamp-on shifter **** (auto zone has em for like 7$) and clamp it on the rod.
put it where the old shifter was, and go
it has about a 1 in throw, feels great
I had to take the shifter suround out tho

You can do that with the stock shifter as well and you don't need to remove the surround. It's not a proper short shifter as such though. It will shorten the throw a little but it makes it notchy and hard to shift especially if your box is on the way out.

That's why. You can go to a junkyard and grab a stock shifter for $5 and make it a short shifter.

Yeah the 200 dollar thing is what is holding me back from getting one. I can see 200 dollars being better spent on something else.
