how to change ALL the oil?
hey guys, i want to get my oil changed ( i usually do it my self) but i know theres oil still left in my oil cooler, anybody know how to drain that or any way to put fresh oil in it without having any old oil in the cooler?
Well, you could remove the lower oil cooler hose and let it drain, but you're likely to damage the mounting bungs with small cracks if you do that very often at all.
I would think that the additional 3/4 to 1 quart of oil that's in the cooler wouldn't make much difference when it's mixed in with 5 quarts of the fresh stuff. I've never worried about it, and can't say that it's ever been detrimental to my car's mileage or performance.
Change it on a somewhat regular basis and you don't have to really worry about it 'gunking-up' in the cooler, if that's your concern.
Whenever I change oil, I always jack up the left side of the car at the front, pop open the drain valve and let it sit for about 1-2 hours while it drains. This gets most of it. If you want to try to get ALL of it, don't drive the car for a week ahead of time so that the oil will drain out of the bearings and down into your pan. That's about the only thing I can think of. HTH,
