Joe, I agree with you if the car had to stay n/a but through reading the whole weekend I've found out that the 200 mark can easily be met with a turbo setup. I actually think its the only way. My car only has 70k on it and the motor is healthy so pulling it apar doesn't make sense to me. I'm going to slowly build a pile of parts for a turbo setup and in the meantime I'm going to drive it the way it is. It's definately fun to drive either way.

 

My point was that making a stock 12A engine produce 200hp is not like making it produce 400hp. A 200hp range is not excessively destructive.

I'm not sure the reason for the personal attack, but I'm sure 200hp is sufficient for you and many others. I didn't say otherwise. In terms of horsepower per pound, the RX-7 is nevertheless underpowered compared to modern cars (and some of its contemporaries). For that matter, an Elise weighs 1950 lbs with 190hp, yet its power-to-weight ratio is still inferior to that of a Corvette, Viper or Porsche.

The weight reduction you seem to endorse is IMHO, not a good recommendation in general because it inevitably results in more junk RX-7's -- unless that's your goal? These so-called "weight reduction" efforts are typically hack jobs by naïve backyard wannabe "racers" who not only destroy their own vehicles, but reduce the value and prestige of other owners' RX-7s. No thank you; my street cars will have full interiors, air conditioning, and any other amenities they came with. A gutted interior only belongs on the race track.

 

My apoligies then. I was searching this site all morning looking for info and keep coming up with the same scenario. Most of the Valid info you get comes from Knowledgeable people telling others what they probably can't afford. I know my budget isn't extreme but I'vr quit buying other people's used stuff. Very rarely is someone getting rid of something cheaply that works well. I have a holley carb that I bought with my manifold and now I'm wondering if it was giving the last owner problems also. Sure I got it for 25 percent of what it was supposed to be worth but not if I end up buying a racing beat carb.

nivekdodge, No problem. You can buy good used parts for little money. You just have to be patient. You can rebuild your Holley easily and very cheaply.

Rebuilding the holley is easy. Does anyone know what RB does that makes them so different? Are they different? or just jet changes?

I am at 200rwhp on a stockport. It is possible. Most horsepower is made or lost with tuning. You can have the baddest bridgeport out there, and put the wrong induction and exhaust on it, and a properly tuned streetport will blow your doors off. I see this every day. People 90% of the time put too much carb, not enough ignition, way to small (or too big) exhaust, and can't figure out why they are not making the horsepower they think they should. Honestly. It boils down to this. You need to decide what you are wanting out of the car. What you can afford. How much knowledge you have to support the tuning of your mods, and how you are going to be driving the car. Keep your goals realistic, and your results will be realistic. This is your car. Your decision.

That depends.........How serious are you about doing this? How much time are you willing to spend? How much fabricating are you willing to do? How much money are you willing to spend? If you are truly willing to commit to doing a blowthrough 12A, and are not just wasting my time, I can get you going. Think it over, give me a pm, and let me know.

 

Its not too hard, my stockport 12a made 200rwhp 235tq at 14psi. GSL-SE fuel pump, modified nikki carb, TII turbo, 2 tII intercoolers, locked distributor, msd 6a, 2.5" exhaust with a presilencer.

 

coldy13, thanks. It helps but I really am looking for all the details too. How do you lock the distributor? Do you run the msd with the boos retard? Don't you have to run a fuel retun line? How much $ did you spend on all the parts?

Bad 83, I'll shoot you a pm when I have 15 posts. I'm definately serious about this and I plan on taking my time accumulating the necessary parts while driving my car the way it sits for now and when I have everything, I'll put it all together.

I'm supprised that I can't find a writeup on turboing a carb'd 12a.
