Hot Strippers

Now that I've got your attention,

Is it easier to pull the engine without the tranny attached, or is it easy no matter what??

Stripping the car and that is where I'm starting.

Thanks,
Eric

I find it very easy to pull with the trans attached. Also is a lot easier to put in with it already installed.

And these Stupid *** titles are starting to get old. Just ask your question.

I thought this was gonna be a thread about hot-tanking.

Generally, I like to pull the motor and tranny as a unit, although it necessitates a more severe angle to clear. I usually have a friend under the car pulling down on the rear of the tranny to facilitate this.

So if you don't have any friends, take the engine and trans out seperately.

No, just take out the radiator so it clears.

True, it's like there's one everyday now. I avoided this thread just for that reason. Why am I here now? I thought, maybe it's not another stupid title thread and it's asking a question about paint or something, but no it wasen't.

To answer your question; if you have an engine hoist it's eaiser to pull both the engine and tranny--and yes take the rad out. More so it's easier to put them back in as a unit rather than trying to line up the trans and engine when just installing the engine back in. My .02

Now that you mention it, what is the chemical that is used, they apply it and after about five min. or so you just scrape the paint off??? Seen it on TLC a couple of times and thought I'd ask.

Thanks,
Eric

Also sorry about the title just trying to get some attention. thanks for the responces though.

Got to thinking about it, the front fire wall is totaled, so I'll just cut it out. Thanks again.

Aircraft remover is a really popular and powerful remover. You can buy it at most autoparts stores. Schucks (Checker, Kragen, whatever) here in town has it in different size cans.

My vote also goes for the tranny and engine together. Since youre draining the rad and everything anyway, its worth it to me to take out the 11 (or whatever) extra 10mm bolts that are easy to get to so you can pull the whole shroud and radiator outta the way. And as said, its easier to put back in already assembled.

^^yes^^ I've used liquid paint strippers, got mine at wally world, and the stuff will eat anything that is not metal, including your skin. And it's messy as hell, just be careful and use it sparingly in conjuction with hand sanding edges and you should be okay.

How high of an angle are we talking? Are 4 normal 2-ton jackstands gonna get it high enough?

I would say so, but why not just pull the extra stuff? It makes it MUCH easier to get it out, and doesnt risk damange to the radiator. You still might as well put it on the stands to get to the tranny mounts and such anyway.
