Steve,
thats some good advice. Makes me think twice about doing any ram air style stuff as I have blocked off the coolant passages in my intake. Do you think that w/ the coolant passages open it would maintain the intake temps high enough to keep the gas vapor in suspension?

Tough to say.
The air/fuel mix might stay intact down the intake, but thats no garantee you might have problems elsewere.Even without the water passages, the intake manifold will still wick some heat from the engine block through direct contact,so deleting the coolant passages is probably OK unless you live in Alaska. But,the point where the fuel enters the airstream(the venturies) is where the cooling effect begins,so freezing can occur as far up as the carb venturies.....which is what happened to me.
The carb has a phenolic spacer that isolates it from engine heat,as well as a small plastic tray molded onto that to block radiant heat. With no water passages and that tray missing,on a mild winter morning my primary venturies would freeze solid with ice so that the engine would only run if I floored it and ran the engine off the secondaries. If I stopped, the engine would die and I had to wait 5 minutes for the carb to thaw out.I finally just took off the 4" pipe I had going from the right turnsignal hole, to the aircleaner snorkle, and let the carb breathe underhood air.I never had a problem again, even without the water passages or the stock thermal regulating aircleaner door, even on a handful of mornings when it was below freezing.
