Home street porting?

Just curious if anybody here has done their own streetport job using the templates? I would be working over a 6 port 13b, but any experiences on either engine would be appreciated. I think I will be doing a rebuild before too long and it makes sense to do the porting at that time, but is it a job best left to the pros?

several guys have done their own porting with and without templates. They seem to turn out very well. 6 port engines are hard to port though, and don't give as good result as a 4 port. Search on a it and you'll find tons of info. It's supposed to be pretty easy. Don't polish the intake ports though. You need the turbulence from the rough surface to keep the fuel atomized. Good luck!

How much do you trust yourself?

I will be rebuilding in the next few months and will likely be porting at that time, too. I've heard that it takes a lot of time and patience but can be done. Personally, I'd rather dump a ton of time into it and mess up myself than take it somewhere and have some mechanic who doesn't care about my car to do a shitty job. At least I would learn what NOT to do

I say go for it, take lots of pictures, and, above all, DON'T CUT CORNERS.

it cost me $90 to port my 12A... $90 for the gasket kit, which the engine needed anyway (dowel O-ring leakage). go and find a ported 12A for less than that

Ya i did minr myself with no template and i did it in like an hour and it was a 13b 4 port. It is in my truck now and it runs great. I did that last year and it still runs realy pretty strong. I think it is totally doable to do this stuff your self. And it doesn't take that long if you know what your doinf and you understand what does what. So any ways thats my experience with it. Oh and i have prbably 12k on the engine now and Redwood i dirve that red 74 REPU and you remeber how that ran when you came to that meet.

So does anyone have a template they want to sell/give me? I do not trust myself to a street port on my first rebuild.

Oh yeah, does anyone have Atkins' video? Is it worth the money and informative as you hoped?

Thanks,
Scott

Hell yeah, that truck pulled. I was really impressed with it, but I didn't know you did that yourself. Hmmm, maybe you'll have to give me a visit if I port mine this summer.
