Holy Mother Of God I Am So Happy...
FINALLYY!!!!!! as most of you have seen, i have been having nothing but rediculous carb troubles from the nikki to the holley i've been messing with. since the holley i have upgraded everything on my fuel system to accomodate it. well, the holley just never worked right for me. today i got really curious. put my old nikki on there. polished the manifold, cleaned everything, reset the floats, resealed the block off plates, and capped off every vaccum port on the spacer. put it on, set the fuel pressure to 3psi, pumped the gas twice, and as soon as i barely turned the key, and i mean AS SOON as i turned that key.... it fired right the **** up!!!!!!! went to 4,000rpms but smooth as hell. i let it warm up, brought the idle down to 800rpms and drove it. omfg!!!!!! i will never leave my nikki again! i am so ***** friggin happy!!!!!! carl, i cant wait!!!!

Heh, what I meant was I'm already sold on it over Holley, Edelbrock etc. This just helped to seal the deal a little more. I've got a streetported '73 12A that's going to get a light rotating assembly, single dizzy, possibly MSD 6AL with an FC leading coil (for the rev limiter), and instead of a holley, I'd rather get a Sterling or banana carb.

Zac!
Congratulations! I am so glad you got over all your carb troubles. Crap man, you've been having carb issues since you sent me that AAB and hose last year. I love the name of the post
I sure hope my Carl Carb goes on without a hitch. I've been trying my best to anticipate problems, but I don't have the money for a fuel system upgrade *yet*. I think it'll be the first set of things I get though. I've been going *mad* trying to anticipate and block off every possible vacuum leak I can think of and triple-checking EVERYTHING before the carb gets here. It's much easier to do with the carb out, and I unfortunately have to *keep* the rat's nest and Air Pump until after the safety.
But anyhoo, I don't want to take away from your thread. You've certainly worked for this day, and I'm really happy for ya.
What kind of Holley was it? RacingBeat 465? Standard Holley 465 or 600? And are there any mods to the carb?
I'm sure we'll love our Carl Carbs I know I was tired of trying to track carb problems.

the holley i had was a 4160 model 600cfm. it would crank up fine and WOT was pretty decent, but tuning the midrange **** out was tough. i'm sure all i needed to do was change the jets and the cam, but i just didnt feel like doing all that on a carb that i'm going to be removing for boost anyways. so if anyone wants a damn near new holley 600, spacer, and rb manifold for their 12a that has a little more time to change jets then make me an offer!
