holley fpr mount

I was thinking of reviving Kentetsu's thread but was unable.

I've designed a bracket for the Holley fuel pressure reg. that looks pretty nice. It only exists in template form right now as I am trying to send a file over to my local water jet guy.

My plan is to make 5 of these if anyone is intersted.

The picture is of an older version. My latest version fits the reg. tighter and consists of bends that strengthen the sheet alum. it's made from.

In the pic it appears as though the bracket touches the clutch line but that is only because it's not bolted down and the posterboard is sagging... also the new one sticks out a tad farther.

Would fail tech to have the fpr mounted on the firewall at our track.

This is just the best I've come up with to avoid drilling holes in my car. I've seen a few other guys with theirs mounted to the fire wall but with a crude braket or by drilling holes. Won't really work with a/c either but I'm looking for those special few who might be interested.
Thanks though. I didn't know there was a rule that prohibited that location.

I fail to see the logic/purpose of that rule, it makes no sense. The firewall is one of the safest places to mount the FPR.

Doesn't matter what you think, that's the rule! I got busted on it and have to relocate mine before i can run again.

Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard! Everybody mounts to the firewall. I have no problems passing tech here in MN

If you had a version that did not mount to the firewall, I might be interested. I haven't had any issues with tech yet, but it only takes one obsessive/compulsive tech inspector to end my day. I'd rather address the matter before I need to.

I thought yours was mounted to the fire wall. Although not directly. Isn't yours attached to a bracket which is then mounted to the hood latch and firewall?

My version isn't bolted directly to the firewall but to a bracket that is then attached to the firewall.
Semantics I suppose...

Wink

if you didn't have the firewall rule it is however an inch or two off the firewall with the bracket...

If the flywheel goes it can go in any direction and unless your fuel tank is mounted in front of your engine there's a chance it could sever a fuel line. The fuel line has to pass the plane of the flywheel!

I checked the SCCA GCR and found no rules as to the placement of the FPR.

Of course I didn't read every line.

Track days at particular tracks my have their own rules but I haven't found an SCCA rule that would prohibit this mounting arrangement.

Does anyone know who's rules are violated by this?

Yes, mine is mounted to a bracket, which is then mounted to the firewall. My understanding is that even that is not legal...

That's one scenario that makes some sense, except for the fact that the fuel lines are mounted there too.

what club's (or organization) rules are broken? I mean to say who says it's not legal? and where are you supposed to mount it?

I'm having trouble understanding this dilema.

As in the flywheel scenario brought up earlier ANY fuel component in the plane of the flywheel is in danger.

I had no idea this would be so complicated.

Now i'm just curious and am determined to get to the bottom of this.

So, it looks as if I'll only be making one then... and possibly tossing it when I don't pass some tech inspection in the future.

This is aggrivating!

Oh well, it'll get me goin' .

Damn... I didn't think of that. Of course, I'm trying to retain my factory air cleaner.

I'm trying to maintain a stock appearance and don't want to drill any holes.

Not that yours required any drilling... Just describing my personal requirements.

Can you post that pic or a link to that thread?

I went looking through your threads and was unable to find it.

Thanks in advance.

That would be SCCA. I have not read that particular rule myself, but have seen numerous references to it over the years. Hell, for all I know it could just be another damned internet rumor. But if you wanted to confirm it, the SCCA rules would be the place to start I guess...
