Thumbs up Holley Blue Installed Today

First, thank you all for the great help, answering my stooopid questions, and putting up with my replies

I just finished installing a Holley blue electric pump in my 83 GSL. It is feeding a used Holley carb./Racing Beat intake kit via the Holley FPR that came with the pump and a mechanical pressure gauge.

The pump is much louder than stock, but not too bad. You can certainly hear it over my stock exhaust though. I need a RB header! It's been too long since I've heard the Carter so I can't compare. I used generous amounts of rubber and nylon spacers to mount the pump. It is mounted near the frame rail on the driver's side forward on the car of the rear axle. I will bend up and drill some thinwall metal sheet(s) tomorrow to form a rock guard.

final note: the pump is MUCH larger than the stock unit making it difficult to find a good place to mount it.

Ah! I broke something on the rx and I'm not 100% sure what it is. While installing my custom fuel pump rock guard I pulled on a rubber line a little too hard. It was attached to a plastic valve or something bolted to the body just forward on the car of the fuel tank - kinda above the rear axle. It has a another rubber line going out that fits into a big rubber/plastic groment on the frame rail. That line just ends there, open to the air (inside the big groment). Anyone know what this plastic piece is? I'm thinking it has something to do with the fuel return/emissions/fuel fumes or some such thing. I'm using the holley carb. so I have no return fuel anymore. Anyone have help on this? Can I just remove it and plug the line(s)?

I believe that is some sort of vent for the fuel tank. I know it is not that crucial to the delivery of the fuel.

Hey thanks. I hope you're right. I'm going out now to look at it a little closer and finish my rear spring install.

Almost ready to drive the rx again. intake, carb., FPG, FPR, fuel pump, custom carb brackets, custom FPR bracket, sheet metal rock guard for the pump, front springs, brakes all installed over the last month or so. and it still runs

I think that plastic thing you broke is the rollover check valve. It's a good idea to have that - it ensures that fuel doesn't flow out of the fuel lines if you flip over.

Thanks Peejay. I'll try to come up with another, since I broke the plastic bottom fitting off.

BTW, I used brass pipe thread fittings to hose bard connectors for the FPR and pump. Nothing seems to be leaking. What kind of sealer would you all use on the fitting threads? Teflon tape, loktight? Is there a special compound to use for fuel systems? I would really like to get -AN fittings on the FPR and carb. in the near future. I'm not sure how to use AN fittings on the pump tho, unless someone makes AN fittings for rubber hose-ends?

OK, second impressions of the pump noise: It's very loud inside the car. Much louder than outside. An aftermarket header is my next purchase, without a doubt.

Just got the rear springs in. Yup, just unbolted the shocks and used a prybar. Walk in the park. I think u mentioned doing this peejay. thanks.

I wouldn't use Teflon tape on fuel line threads unless you're VERY careful. I've heard of instances where the tape was put on sloppy and it broke off and partially clogged the fuel system. Pipe threads theoretically should seal dry but we all know about how theory applies to real life

I prefer to use liquid sealant. If you use the tape stuff, make sure to NOT get any over the hole area, and preferably also leave the first thread or two uncovered, just to be safe.

I used Loctite on all my fuel system fittings. It's some special compound suitable for use with gas and fuel.
