Red face high idling bridgeport.

hi,im new to this forum and find it great!! i have recently bought a canary yellow series 2 with a 12a bridgeport..now,having never owned a bridgey b4 i havwe a question...my motor has around 12,000kms on it according to the pile of reciphts i got with the car...runns real strong..but idles at around 1800rpm!!! now i know bridgeys idle high but this high?? a good rotary shop here built the engine in august 2004 but have since relocated to another city so that rules out stopping by to see them. the recipht 4 the motor rebuild says : extend primary bridge" anyway..thats my question/worry..oh and the dizzy is fully advanced, this normal 4 a bridgey?? also theres no longer any vaccum lines hooked up to the vaccum advances..doesnt bother it..motor is completly de emmisioned. hey thanks 4 any help you guys can give me. regards mike

my old bridgie (13B) idled at around 1750rpm. Quite often you ned a reasonably high idle to keep the plugs from fouling.

You've said nothing about your carb set up, that can make a difference. My 1/2bp-1/2sp can idle as low as 800 rpm, barely. My bp is not extended and in the secondary ports, I usually run mine 12-1300 rpm.

Ya, logged in on my brother's account again^

My 1/2 BP likes to idle @ around 1500-1700 rpm w/ the overly sized carb that the idiot of an owner put on before me.

yea im running just a rebuilt stock nikki..guess its been jetted for the bridgey....so you reckon with that high idle its not a half bridgey?? hey and sometimes wen sitting at lights etc..itl stop going brap brap brapand sound like an extend port and drop its revs to around 1500..u just give it a tiny tap on the gas and its brap brap braping again..im a virgin to bridgeys so any help would be great..motor runns great..loads of oil pressure..starts well hot or cold..oh yea and and the 2 vacuum advance diaprams arnt running hoses to antwhere anymore so im thinking its been converted to mech secondarys????? should my timing be fully advanced like it is???? its a 12a bridgey by the way.

My 12a J-bridge idles @1800.

You want a bridge to have a nice solid lope at idle. When I lowered the idle rpm's it studdered and hiccuped.

Your timing greatly depends on what material apex seals, size of ports, and intake system. Dynotune to be sure. Ceramics like more timing. Mine is set to 27.5* total advance on the leading, no vacuum advance. centrifugal only.

I don't know who mods the Nikkis down under for a bridgey, but it does take a bit of work. How smooth does the car run under under 3k at steady state cruising, is it smooth, herky/jerky? My 1/2 bridge is gutless under 3k and jerky under 2.5k when trying to cruise. At 4k the power starts showing, at 5k it rips. I'm running a Mikuni.
