High Beam Problem (searched and didn't find the answer)

Hey everyone, got a problem with my high beams. Seems they don't work. No it's not that they are burned out on high beam, I just put in brand new bulbs today.

When I flick the switch forwards to have high beams come on and stay on my headlights go out all together, but when I pull it towards me to flash them so to speak they work just fine, and obviously I can't drive around holding the switch. I tried having a look today with the steering column surround all removed but can't see where the connection meets the light switch. Any ideas?

Thanks
-Justin

A friend of mine actually has the exact same problem with his 85 gsl.

Sorry but I have no idea what is causing it to do that.

Thanks man, you saved me the trouble of digging that link out.

Just keep in mind, after I wrote that I found out that it might not be necessary to disassemble anything. It may work just as well if you just hose the cleaner in there, without taking anything apart. So, I would recommend that you try that first. Good luck, and I hope this information helps you out.

This seems to be a common problem: I've got it with my SE but not the others.

I tried just heavy spraying of contact cleaner, but no luck. I guess I'll have to disassemble things.

Did it yesterday, I didn't completely remove everything, but I did remove the steering wheel and the plastic casing in behind it. Sprayed generously with contact cleaner and used the compressed air sprayer as well, worked the lever back and forth and every direction non stop for about 20 minutes. The highbeams still were not working about 30 minutes later, but about 3 hours later when I checked they were working. They have been working since then. Thanks for all the help with the link.
