hi guys
hwy i'm new here, i purchased an 82 rx7 awhile back for 500 bucks. It currently isnt running, and has been sitting since 95. The body has seen better days, but i bought it anyways because of the price and that its rare to see a first gen for sale in my area.
to get it running might only take a couple cans of dry gas, starter fluid and a battery...engine only has 80k 12.a and 5speed
i originaly bought it just to drop in a5.0 w/ a t5 but my biddy later on bought an 85 and gave me a test drive and it feels pretty fast so i may not even do a v8 swap now.
but for my questions what would be the best bang for the buck for a rear end
i heard of a few peeps that swapped out a 2000 miata subframe/irs so i now that is possible
some people told me the irs out of a c4 corvette would be easier
and last but not least theirs the option to go grannysspeedshop ford 8.8 w/ torque arm conversion kit
this car would just be my weekend warrior and would see autox a couple times a month.
also do any companies sell the following ...fender flares for both front and back, new floor pans...my drivers side is shot, and quarter panal replacements and or skins?
thanks alot guys
i'm loking forward to getting my 1st gen running and on the road by next spring

Terrified.
As far as supsension goes, what will you be using the car for? Are you turning it into a full blown racecar, or is it going to be used on the street and on a daily driver or semi daily driver?

semi daily, and every now and then i'll hit up an autox course
i'm just not sure if the solid axle will hold me back on the course as i never hear any one running an autox course w/ a SA....its like running autox with an auto, i just really never heard of any1 doing it

Just get some great shocks and springs for all around, swap out the rear end for a rear end from of FB with a limited slip and disc brakes in the rear. If you can get your hands on an SE suspension, do a full SE suspension swap. There is no reason in the world to go through all the troubles of doing a miata irs swap or something else of that nature if its not going to be a full blown race car. In fact, I don't know of many people at all who have swapped out the rear end unless it was for a Ford 9 inch or 8.8 inch rear end just to support the power they are putting down.

ok, thanks, only one i was kind of considering was the 8.8 as the axles stronger and i can equip it with discs, posi and any gear i desire...just threw out the others just for ideas
i'm assuming the only way i'll beable to get rear quarters and floorpan is to watch the parts for sale section huh, as i doubt any junkyards near me would have anything i need, hell i couldnt even find a solid axle for my toytoa pickup

The stock rear end will handle at least 300hp, but definately go with the 3.9 ratio LSD disc brake rear from a GSL or even a complete front and rear suspension swap from a GSL-SE which has bigger brakes and more available lug spacing (including lug studs instaed of lug bolts) also a 4.1 ratio.

The steering ratio on PS cars is faster but not all GSLs have power steer option, and you don't need to swap the steering linkages to do this GSL-SE swap, mine took about 3 hours once I had all the parts ready to go.
Note the SE caliper brackets have larger bolts, (ask how I know that... )
