Hi to all..

Hi to everyone on the forum. This is my first time here, but my bf Spencer (smnc) has told me so much about this place and how helpful you guys are.

I have been reading about the RX-7 and the new RX-8. So here is my first question: Should I sell my car (Intrepid) in the spring and get myself a RX-7 OR should I wait until the RX-8 comes out and trade in my car? I would like to know the pro's and con's for both cars.

Talk to ya soon

Welcome!

My bro is getting an RX-8 when they become available to the general public. If you want a sport sedan, get the RX-8. You can fit people in the rear seats! That's good enough for me.

I'm putting a deposit down on a RX-8 as soon as I can. I think it will take the sport sedan market by storm. The RX-7 is a great car (I happen to love mine dearly, and my girlfriend knows it ), but if you've got an intrepid now I have a feeling you're going to want the back seats that the RX-8 offers over any US-made RX-7 thus far excepting a few 2nd gens. And to tell you the truth, the 7 wouldn't be as much fun w/ 4 seats.

Just my opinion, the new 8 will prolly be in the 25k - 30k range, making it on the outside edge of my price range unless I can save about 10k by then (hoping).

At any rate, welcome to the forum, and reguardless if you get a 7 or 8, have fun!

Question...

It's Summer and we're all gathered together with our Sevens swappin' lies and swattin' flies....Two cars pull into the lot, and a female driver steps out of both cars, of course both are easy on the eyes. One is a RX-8 and the other is an '85 GSL-SE, both cars are lookin' sharp....Okay Cowboys....Which of us head for which car....Me? the '85 GSL-SE

A tip of the Stetson,

Some cars are for lookin' and some are more fun to live with... I'd look at the '8 but I'd end up with the '7

Hehe Denny
I drive a GSL-SE

speckamp
The only reason she has an Intrepid is that it was a hand-me-down from her dad. He's a BIG guy so he needs a big car (he drives an Isuzu Rodeo now).

Anyways, she wants somthing a LOT smaller but she wants backseats. We figure at least one of use should have a backseat, and I already told her it's not gonna be me, lol.

My mom had an '84 GSL when I was a kid and had a backseat installed when my younger sister was born. I have firsthand experience in them, and they're TINY unless you're under the age of 12.

The RX-8 will be near the very top of our price range too, but I promised her we'd find a way. I figure it's only fair as she's VERY understanding of my rex obsession.

And she REALLY likes the look of the RX-8. Actually I do too, but I like my -SE more.

Still she's undecided, so any and all opinions you guys have are appreciated

Thanx,
-Spencer

Sorry for my response, I dont want to rub elbows with one one. But if "she wants something a LOT smaller but she wants backseats" why dont you get her a civic, the new rsx, or maybe a beetle. lol

Re: Question...

The RX-8 and tell the nice lady I'll pay her insurance deductable if she will let me "borrow" her car for the weekend. pull the motor/tranny and put it in my GSL-SE
Then head over to the one in the 85 GSL-SE (if its Silver) heheh

She wanted to reply to this herself, but she had to go to work, so she asked me to cover this one.

She HATES Civics a LOT, she thinks the new Beatles are FUGLY, and although she thinks the RSX is okay, she much prefers the beauty and simplicity of a rotary.

Basically, for the purposes of this post, assume the only 3 cars that exist are the 1st gen series 3 RX-7, the RX-8, and the 1994 Chrysler Intrepid ES.

definitely get the RX-8, then when she's not looking, nab the renesis for the gsl-se! seriously, the intrepid is just boring, you DO already have a 1st gen(nothing wrong with 2 tho ) , but the RX-8 would have a slight practicality edge.... and you'd get to drive it too! best of both worlds! .... so when ya gonna let all us drive it? :p

Hehe! I'd already thought of that

seriously, the intrepid is just boring
Yup. Only 3 things we like about it.
1) Great stock stereo. Sounds bett er than my rex (for the next month or so anyways)
2)TONS of cargo space. My rex isn't bad, but the Intrepid puts it to shabe for cargo hauling.
3) The V-6 is nice (tho not as nice as my 13B)
'Course on the downside, it handles like a boat, accelerates like a boat, looks like a boat... Basically it's a boat on wheels.

I can hardly wait to drive it Tho I'll be luck if she lets me sit in it, let alone drive it.

heck..I'd take the gsl-se over a rx-8 anyday if not for the cost to buy one alone.u can get a great looking se for 2500-6000... and proably pay cash for it...the rx8???? gosh...25,000!!!!!! I know what line I would be in....yeah ...you have no back seat but...if you need a back seat....let someone else drive there car....or better yet, keep your 4-door intrepid ..you are still better off than 25,000-30,000 in the hole with the rx-8....just my opinion....................???????????????cjf

RX-8 Love

You have a point the Intrepid does have some good stuff like the cargo space, a powerful engine (for a non Rotary) and the sound system is really good for a stock system. But the Intrepid is too big for me (I'm woman enough to admit that ) especially when parking.

I'd like to thank everyone that posted so far. But I can't wait until the RX-8 comes out.

Talk to you guys soon

RX-8 Love

Does anybody know what the final look of the RX-8 will be? I heard that they are giving it a face lift. Just trying to find out how many like the current look. So the question is: How many of you like the look of the RX-8 that it has right now? And I know that a lot of you love the RX-7 and that's fine.

I'm just wondering what you guy think.

rotarynews.com has the "near final" pics. Mazda says they'll prolly make one more final polish before they begin production.

I look at the situation this way. I have a 7 I'm going to finish restoring this spring. It's a beatiful (to me ) silver GSL-SE. But I'm going to need something that I can haul a few more people and that gets a touch better than gas milage than 19MPG I'll still keep the GSL-SE for weekend fun and for Solo II, but if I'm going to have to settle for a sport sedan, I might as well support Mazda and the rotary engine

Becides, the RX-8 is supposed to out-handle the FD3S
And I can't wait to see what a turbo does for the RENESIS!
