Imma have to say since u were on a steep hill the carb dumped a little extra fuel in and thus u Fireballed. Fuel in ur exhaust and it ignit, doesnt do much damage if any(depends on ur exhaust setup) As for sputtering i would suggest checking ur cat(if u have one) the fireball may have broke it up and clogged it. Or check ur carb. Only things i can think of

The worst part of this problem is that the car is 110 miles away from where I live on farm land so I dont have a proper garage around and I cant get out there very often. I am goin there this weekend for 4 days so all the extra Ideas are welcome and hopefully I will be driving it home on Mon

Thanx Kevin

Cat is your catalytic convertor. Right after your exhaust manifold is where they are. Theres 3 of them usually. Id say try cleaning the carb thou, maybe a rebuild is in order, not sure, maybe sterilng or carl will come around and give some info

When the cat fried in my old truck it ran ok at low speeds and like garbage above 40ish. I don't know if this would translate to a rotary, but I hear it is a common trait when a cat goes.
