Here is The Spoiler I Wish I Could Find
I'm sure it has it's uses in racing, but DAMN that things bugly.
I'm sure most of us here would settle for the 'normal' looking Mariah wings over something like that, at a fraction of the cost!

Opinions = ********
Threads like this crack me up.
Yup - it's your money and your car, so spend as much as you like to make it look the way that you want it to look. The other half of the equation, of course, is don't then demand that other people stroke your ego by telling you what good taste you have, and how cool the entire "look at me" package is. I heartily endorse anything that you might want to do that makes you feel good, while doing no harm to anyone else. What I don't like is the idea that someone comes on a public forum and asks strangers their opinions, but only if they agree. No negative comments allowed, huh? 800 bucks is a "drop in the bucket" for you to tell yourself you're "special" Mr High Roller? Hope that means you've already taken care of insignificant little tidbits like your family, your future, and even put a little something away for retirement. When you are 70, maybe you will just be happy telling all of your neighbors who are also living in refrigerator boxes what a cool wing you had fifty years ago - in between spoonfuls of Mighty Dog of course. So, if it hasn't become abundantly clear, buy it if YOU like it, if YOU can afford it, and then YOU enjoy it. Quit looking for approval from others because it just sounds like "mommy.................mommy..................momm y............look mommy...............mommy...............mommy look.............lookit mommy..............mommy....................mommy. ............mommy..................mommy.......... ." to the rest of us.
Good Luck with your project

Its a free world, everbody has the right to a opinion. I myself prefer the old school look, with the original wing that Mazda had as a option.
I think its ok to slap a wing on and say: damn, that looks good! On the other side, i really dislike persons that say: i absolutely have to get me a 3 feet high, over the roof, 30 pound airplane steel highchair, because it gives me added downforce when driving at high speed! The only time you really need a wing like that is when you are doing 150 mph and beyond, and to be honest, not many 1.st gens out there are doing that...
Just be honest, say that you like the look and dont give a **** about what everbody else thinks! But dont get technical and try to argue that you really need it...
Just my 2 cents, let the flaming begin!

So my Ferrari looks "bugly"? BTW the photos I posted are of a spoiler not really a wing. And I only think it may look good on a wide body like my Pacific.
Another BTW: GTU race "wide body" RX7s are like a foot wider than street Mariah Mode 1 kits.
So what, in your opinion, is wrong w/ a Ferrari 328GTS?

I just don't see it on my car, that's all. Maybe on a Ferrarri, like I hinted at before.

In response to the weight of the Mariah GTO whalatail....Its actually very light. The thick mounting surface is small, relative to the overall size of the wing. The majority of the wing's body is thin, thus light. It is lighter than the old duckbill I had,I know that.
In response to Boswoj....Im all for opinions.People like what they like, and if someone feels that 800 is too much for a wing, then fine.I gave specific, logical reasons of why I choose this pricier wing, instead of just yelling back,"Your retarded,F-you!" or some other infinatile response. As stated,I SAVED money in the end by getting this wing over some of the other, more affordable wings. Also note that this has been a 10 year project.Im fully aware that 800 bucks is a substantial amount of money, but over 10 years of building and driving this car,Ive spent that many times over.....BUT,BUT,BUT....its no more money than millions of other people spend EVERYDAY on NEW cars.People buy 20-30-40 thousand dollar cars every day and spend the next 10 years paying them off.I choose to spend an equal amount of money over an equal amount of time, pursuing my hobby and making an old car as good, if not better than a new car.I have friends that bought new cars right out of high school and are just now getting them paid off.And by this time theyre almost as worn out as my $400 84 RX-7 was when I first bought it.My car is also paid for and finished and guess what?....Its nearly a brandnew vehicle, new engine, new paint, new everything.Ready for another 200K miles. My buddies now 10 year old "new" cars they bought new and paid for over the last 10 years are now worn out and aged.In the end Im no worse off financially than them and I wont have to buy another new car in 3-4 years.

Snapshot, you don't wanna see my car as it is
As for the not seeing it on my car statement:
My personal vision of a 'perfect' looking first gen is the Mariah non-widebody kit, with the low profile spoiler that almost looks like the second gen spoiler.
No need for some high falutin' spoiler on a street/roadrace car at all, since the benefits from it would be at EXTREMELY high speeds, and those driving conditions would rarely reach those speeds.
A smaller spoiler still adds some downforce, and weighs a LOT less.
It appears you took the Ferrari statement wrong as well, too.
I never up and said it was BUGLY (If I did, I meant to say that about the spoiler, sorry!)
In my opinion, though, it just looks too much like an Esprit, the only exotic that holds a place in my heart. In MY opinion, exotics are FAR to expensive for what you get. Sure, it's nice to have that pretty badge on your car, but what does it really mean? I'm sure you love your Ferrari, and get plenty of good looks and people that give you 'the nod,' but that just isn't my game.
Everyone and their sister knows that car is a Ferrari. If they don't, they'll call it an Esprit, which is still an exotic. That's great, but, like I said before, just not MY thing.
In my RX 7 (you have one too, I know, maybe even for the same reason!), know one knows what this 'rotary motor' (I've had someone ask if it had the Rotary Transmission like the RX8) is. Half the people think it's some Datsun, or an old Porsche. It's the MYSTIQUE that draws me to RX 7's, and that's all I need.
I would feel 'smaller,' somewhat, if I needed people to compliment my car every day to make myself feel good. I'm not aiming that as a shot at you, just stating it.

Amen, if you want compliments buy an M3 or an SLK, people know what those are, RX7s, I still have a hard time getting the rotary concept across to some people.
I have a first gen for the fact that it's different and its one sweet car and I also own two full-size trucks, so I've got a variaty cuz it's hard to go off road in a mazda.
If you like then do it don't worry about others opinions.......opinions are like, well you know everybody has one.

Do what you want! I had a "ricer" wing on my 85 gsl and everyone thought it looked great. I currently dont have a wing but may get a whale tail. Its all about u and ur tastes. Who cares what eveyone thinks. Just dont get ridiculous!
Steve-
1) You misinterpreted the opinions=******** thing. It is a restatement of the fact that opinions are like ******** - everybody has one. Figured you would pick up on that. I also think opinions are good things and encourage everyone to have one. Also encourage everyone to go to the trouble of logically reasoning and supporting their opinion so when they are challenged concerning their opinion they have a reasonable chance of defending it.
2) So you are basically agreeing with me - right up until you start feeling like I need to admit that your $800 dollar wing is clearly evidence of how cool you are. As previously stated - if a full bullwinkle, my-mommy-and-daddy-didn't-hug-me-enough, please-notice-me-I'm-an-attention-***** wing gives your little chubbie a tingle then by all means knock yourself out! Will I think you're neat-o because of it? No, but why would you care? Do it for you, spend as much as you like, and stop fishing for approval from others. The choice you have made is a purely esthetic one and there is simply no accounting for taste. Trying to justify your decisions by suggesting aerodynamic advantage is simply completely bogus for the street. Period. If the extra dough buys you added durability, or increased esthetic satisfaction for yourself then good for you. It only becomes a problem when it continually turns into a male version of "do these make my butt look big?" It's your *** - if you're comfortable with it, then live with it and stop looking for the approval of others. If you don't like it, then change it, and stop looking for the approval of others. Noticing a theme here?

They are worth nearly nothing overhere (europe) and whatever you pay for it (here in Europe I mean) will be far less then what it'll cost to maintain. Ferrari might be good in F1, they never really managed a lot of quality control in their roadcars.
The ONLY reason people buy 308's or 328's is the prancking horse badge. That said, from a car enthousiasts point of view I think 308-328's don't look all that bad in real life (better then on pics) and they are probable rather fun to drive if it's a well sorted one. But for the money, I'd rather buy a lesser-badged, but more competent car.
