a pilot will only make a noise when the clutch is fully depressed and a throwout will make a noise that changes pitch and intensity while the clutch is being depressed.

since i bought the car when you are at idle and just push the clutch in and out it makes noise.... like a wurr or high pitch moan....( only way ot say it ) and down shifting is a mother i have to like kick the dam thing into gear the only way to down shift without working is to come to a stop then downshift to first or what not

does it make this noise while your in the process of getting the peddle from engaged to released or when you only just get to the bottom of the travel and in gear?

Does it make the noise when the car is stationary or only while it's moving?

the wurring sound and moan happens when im stationary like pushing in and out the clutch but the rumbling noise happens anytime i go over 4-5000 rpm's.............and its like a high pitch almost metal grinding but rattling noise....my cousins suv started doing it to but he has a 99 suv' automatic but makes the same noise even though i have a 85 gs manual

Mine made a high pitched noise all the time. The fluid was gone. Not sure how this happened exactly because I have checked the level a few different times and it is normal each time. Could be that fluid is low and it is making a sound. Just an idea. The only upside to driving around without tranny lube is the noise. Sounds like a real big supercharger. Good stuff, yet bad stuff at same time.

ok Rusty yours sounds like it could be throwout bearing (noises are EXTREMELY hard to diagnose without hearing them).
Ian if you have no lube in your box you need to get some in it now....driving with no lube not only damages the bearings but also puts the gears under intesnse heat and will make the steel loose temper. Once the gears loose temper the whole thing except the case is trash.

I only drove it like that (making noise) for about 2 miles. Though now my throwout bearing is kinda bad now after that happened. I also get a high pitched whine that changes with rpm and sounds like a blower also hehe (probably bearings). I will get it fixed but my car is being worked on more than it is driven. Also it is my "fun" car so it only gets driven around occasionally anyways. Especially now that it is cold out. Ahh to live somewhere more south than Iowa.....

in a standard you pull the fill plug and stick something like your little finger in and you should have 90w on it.....if you got larger fingers like I do I use a ziptie to stick in there to use like a dipstick......level should be close to even with the fill plug.
