HELP - Weird noise while driving
My car suddenly developed this weird loud lumpy noise
like somthing spining loose. It seems to be comming from the tranny area but i'm not very sure though. The noise can't be felt through the shifter, nor the steering wheel.
The noise only is apparent when the car is moving under these conditions, not accelerating; when the clutch is engaged; and in neutral.
I did a visual inspection in the dark with a flashlight right after I noticed it and didn't spot anything apparent other then a indentation on the front drivers rotor which I assume is from a rock? If the rock is still there could this be the problem?
I'm going to take a look tomorrow morning I hope it's something simple that I can fix easily, but with my luck lately it'll be big bucks
Any suggestions would be great, thanx

well, first things first... make sure your lug nuts are tight. Not saying you're not smart enough to think of that, but I couldn't figure out why I had the same noise you're describing, and I finally decided to check the lugs (after replacing the driveshaft and tranny), and found out that it was the driver's side front tire that had worked it's way loose while driving somehow
Anyways, if not the lugs, check the driveshaft's U-joints for excessive play, and the bolts where it meets the rear end. After that, I'm sure somone else can suggest another thing to check. Those are my first two guesses.

Heh, i was driving down the highway and the same thing happened, i'd let go of the gas with the clutch engaged and that would happen, i'd start driving and it'd go away... it kept getting worse and worse until i pulled over and saw every lug nut was on it's last thread.

the previous owner of my car had the driver's side front wheel fall off while going onto an onramp onto a bridge here. Then 2 years later when I was driving it, the same wheel was coming loose, giving the same noise you described, which is the reason I suggested it
