HELP with timing... (I've been through archives!)

well, I recently had some carb work done and genius over there decided to undo my DLIDFIS with an MSD and an extra coil. (Carb work was well done, mind you) problem was he didn't have an ignitor, and by the time I got there, my extra coil was taken off, my MSD was running through the distributor and he had both trailing and leading firing at the same time cuz he left the jumpers on the coils and ran one to the leading, and one to the trailing. (Kind of a neat idea, after I thought about it...) But I had no tach, wicked radio interference, and Ive heard the MSD burns through caps and rotors in a hurry like that. So I decided to switch it back. Now, it seems to pull well up to about 5500 (I haven't put the trailing back on, so my tach isn't working yet) , and then just falls off power like nobody's business. I reset my timing to stock, and I get slight backfires and misfires when free-reving in neutral. The car actually pulls quite well in the midrange, but the top end is just gone. I double checked my MSD reinstall, and everything seems to be in order. I'm confused and annoyed, and any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

The other possiblility is that I'm revving the **** out of it and not realising it... But IIRC 7000 RPM in 1st is about 30 MPH, 2nd is 50 MPH, 3rd, 80 MPH, right???

P.S. EonBlue and gen1onr... whcih one of you guys were doing the side-fire plug thing? how did it work and what part numbers/brand of plugs did you use???
Thanks!

you need to do a compression check on your motor... you can fire both leading plugs at the same time..but you cant fire both trailing. caz 1 will always be firing on an intake stroke.... you need need 2 msd boxes if you want msd on leading and trailing

k... the way he had it wired, was the magnetic pickup was still hooked up where leading ignitor used to be. Then the MSD went to the coils. From one coil he went to the L and the other to the T on the distributor. From T1 and T2 he went to the bottom 2 plugs (wrong, I know. but don't try to tell him that!) and from L1 and L2 to the top two plugs... so now that I think about it I really don't know what was firing when... But either way, it still ran. Just had radio interference something awful... He used solid core wire, which is my best guess at the interference...

ANYWAYS. I've done a couple compression checks in the past, and it isn't running any different than it ever did, so I have no reason to think its bad... I can do another one, but I don't think that's it. I'm this close to ditching the MSD box altogether... its been nothing but headaches since day 1 and didn't do **** all for my car...
