HELP RHD First Gen Rack and Pinion
Hey guys.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone done a RHD Rack and Pinion conversion on the first gen? im also interested in anyone who has done an FC subframe converson (RHD).
I realise most of you have LHD Sevens but im just throwing it out there as ive looked everywhere.
(Before anyone gets upset........ive searched this forum, no-piston, google, Austrotary and petty much everywhere i can think of?
Any information would be great.

I did a search while ago and came up with (i think it was "Kim"'s write up on the swap for the subframe. I'd guess it was for LHD but have you looked at it, tons of good info?

I guess a RHD FC subframe conversion may work?
The only thing im worried about is clearance issues with my trubo setup, seeing as how our Sevens are RHD i can forsee some major issues with exhaust manifold and turbo clearance.
I enquired about the reespeed conversion but i cant source a suitable RHD rack. and they refused to give me any specs so i could source one myself.
If anyone knows the specs of the LHD rack used i suppose i could track down a similar suitable RHD rack in Australia?

dude, are you freaking serious. it says right on the respeed page what rack it is. just do some research on your own.
if youre saying youre worried about all these clearance issues with your turbo and all, why shouldnt respeed be worried about the same thing? esspecially since he runs the risk of making something that can not work or fail under use. he has A LOT more to loose than you do in this deal.

I'll add a bit to your rant. The rack is from a fox body mustang. There has to be fox body mustangs that are RHD somewhere in the world. Buy one and the kit and it will bolt to the subframe. then do the rest of gaining the clearance your self. Switch the column holder to the other side of the car. Come on it's not going to be that hard to modify once you have the main parts. The steering conversion is not sold with a rack anyways so you won't be getting one you can't use. I would personally in your shoes switch the car to left hand drive. Then you'll have all the space you need for a turbo. or maybe decide you just can't have everything and sometimes depending on where you live life sucks sometimes.

with the re speed kit so far i have fitted the cross member what bolts straight up in to the RHD no problems
fitted the new steering shaft the part inside of the steering column, what goes straight in no modification
the only modification work:
is to make mounts for the rack its self to bolt on
make the correct length steering shaft from the end of the steering column down to the rack
the factory rx7 tie rod ends thread straight on to the Toyota steering rack , u will need to change both control arms over left to right and both steering arms (that bolt under the shock) need to go left to right so that the tie rod end will bolt on in front of the shock instead of behind.
not much extra work at all and the kit is unreal. top quality

So seriusly you guys never got the mustang down under????? Why? They get them in japan. Not that your missing out on anything since they suck but I can't believe japan has them and you don't. You guys have all the big overpowered engine cars in austrailia and new zealand.

i don't know about Ausi but we do have a few around but they are rear and i would hate to think what they would cost even if you could find one over here ( you would most likely have to order it in from overseas anyway). i got my rack 4 $20 NZ (mint working condition, just down the road from me) and it will take 3-4 hours 2 do the mods needed to mount it and make the steering shaft and it will use the standard outer tie rod ends. i can do all the modifications needed so its a dam lot cheaper 4 me 2 do it that way and much easier than spending hours on the phone trying to find 1. cant stand ring around and getting no where i would perfer to be working on my car than on the phone.

tell you the truth mate don't no lol id say so but never looked. il start a build thread soon but im really just collecting parts at the moment but with in the next month i will start a build thread up and will take pictures of it all, and list parts etc. if that helps you at all
