Help for a quick start

My son just acquired a 1983 RX7 from a family friend. Have not yet even seen the car. I was told that it has not been started for the last two years but it has been in the family garage for the entire time. I don’t know anything about the RX7 except they are cool. Would like to get your advice on what to do as I first start the car, I’d like to minimize the damage from it sitting for the last two years. I plan to change the engine oil, drain the gas tank if possible then refill, replace the plugs (it has plugs doesn’t it?), change the transmission oil and install a new battery. What else should I do to help preserve the car?

It’s supposed to have the sports package and “T” tops. I’ll worry about the body and interior once I get it home. Looks like this forum will be a great place to pick up on a lot of good information on the RX7 after I get it going.

I’m a fairly decent weekend mechanic but wanted some suggestions to help us get this car up and running as quickly a possible.

search for MMO treatment, very usefull if the engine is seazed. before trying to do anythign i would say pull the plugs and see if you can turn the engine over by hand to make sure its all free.

Amazing, the same thing happened to me...I just got a 1983 RX-7 from my Biology teacher. It also has been sitting in a garage for the last two years and has only been started a couple of times within that period. She didn't want it anymore, and said I can just pick it up for FREE! I'm about to turn 16 next month, and I really want that car to turn out very nice. I don't need to rush it though, I don't mind if it takes a long time, as long as it turns out nice. I have a decent amount of knowledge on these cars and so does my dad, but to tell the truth, I can really use everyone on this forums help. If I seem like an idiot by asking too many questions or even dumb questions, please just help me out. I'll be posting pics and stuff later and giving more info to see if you guys have suggestions and all the other stuff. Thanks for any help!

Hey, we can get all three of our 83s started at the same time!
I got mine from a co-worker. Surely a bad carb, and maybe needs an engine rebuild (lots o miles). Dranochak, maybe you mean it has a moon/sun roof? Cuz I can't think of an RX with T-Tops, although that may be interesting.
From what I've figured out (I'm FAR from an expert) they have spark plugs, and need new ones OFTEN
Drain all fluids, and try turning the motor by hand, like mentioned before. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GAS IN THERE BEFORE TRYING TO START IT, as the previous owner of my car said they are VERY unfriendly to 'fume gas driving.'
That's all I can say for now. Let's get these guys going!
