Exclamation HELP!!! Putting it back together with a carb on it!

Ok, so I bought my very first RX7! New to Rotary Engines. the guy I bout her from removed the intake and the carb. I ordered a carb from a salvage yard to get her going and make sure nothing else way messed up before I start upgrading.

I have the tutorial to remove the rat's nest.

I have the pictures from another tutorial.

but I really need some additional pics of a circa 85 rx7 with a carb set up, with out without the rats nets. just from some different angles please! I've a very visual person, and since I didn't take it apart, i'm having a hard time making sure I put it together right.

I have it 80% back together, but now I want to start taking out the rats nest and simplifying things a bit.....and I'm not sure where to start, and if I have everythign else assembled enough.

I believe their are some threads in the archive section that have pictures.

Also in my signature is the link to the factory service manuals. You can find the carburetor manual as well as the full service manuals there.

I downloaded every manual, but they of course don't show a carb with it's emissions control missing.

i'm trying to simplify my life.....i guess i should have seriously thought harder before buying a rotary ingine car in pieces..lol!

What are you saying here?

In regards to pictures your best bet it to search with the terms rats nest as I have seen pictures of a stripped Nikki in a thread here. Use the advanced search and use the option of seeing threads with the most posts to weed out useless ones.

I spelled Engine wrong in the post above...an Ingine...not Rotary Engine...That's all. Thanks for the links and the advice....I shall look it all up.

I'm 3 posts away from seeing links in your signatures.....

I've looked at quite a bit of stuff in the past week. I downloaded everytihg I can for this car, and bought a haynes manual....but I seem to be missing one thing..

what does the main air bleed do? and do I need it? both the new carb i purchased and the the old carb (that came in pieces with the car) have broken nipples on the MAB Solonid, and I wondedered if I can just bypass it?

Those pictures are already helpful. On the passenger side I have a linkage rod that hooks up to?!?!?!? something, but it looked like it was supposed to hook into a spot on the carb, but it didn't line up, but now I realize my replacement carb was a little bent...

Anyone have any ideas...

This car ran when the guy took the carb off. I put a replacement carb on.

I followed the Rats nest removal tutorial. since a good chunk of the emissions were already missing.

Now I've had it spit and sputter a couple of times, I've almost had it running, but it seems to be kind of prone to backfiring....through the carb.

Am I missing something here, or do you think it's a timing issue?

I read in one post that it could be because it's not turning over fast enough. the batter I have isn't very good, so I'm going to go buy a replacement, and I have a 200 Amp jump starter as well. it doesn't seem to want to backfire if it's choked out a bit....

Sorry I am really new to rotaries, and this carb, has more crap on it than I've ever seen!

ok so I don't think I posted this info. It's an 85 with a 12a, and a replacement (junk yard) nikki. I bought the racing beat intake plate too, just beacuse i'm a poor metal fabricator.
I'm pretty sure I have all of my vac lines hooked up right. That tutorial is a little tough in a couple of spots.

but I'm pretty sure it's all hooked correctly. At least I know the dizzy is and the solonoid for the ac (even though the ac compressor is gone)

Update. with the proper starting speed it actually started and ran!!!

So now I just need to figure out how to adjust the carb so it'll stay running with the choke off. right now it idles at 3k with the choke pulled and I have to nurse it to keep it running with the choke off!

OMG I am very surprised no-one has posted this for you. http://sterlingmetalworks.com/, Its got step by step guides to the ins and outs of the Nikki. Hope this is helpfull. Im bery positive its ur idle mixture screw thoufh. When ur on the drivers side looking at the carb. There is a screw dead center of the carb on the bottom. Turn this out counter clock wise. This will richen up the carb. You should idle then. But then againe the carb could of sat for a while and will need a rebuild also.
