Help please....

I put my head lights up on the way to school a couple of days ago, and when i got there they wouldn't go down. My dad told me it'd need a new dog bone, but i hadn't got it from mazda yet. The lights were stuck up, but i turned them off. then i went to work, and when i finished later that night, i turned the lights on (which were up) and the instrument lights weren't illuminated. I was wondering if any of you know what the problem could be. The lights will go up, but not down. I can crank them down if i want to, and they go up with the switch, but i cant put them down with the switch. I have no idea what it could be and im really confused. Can anyone help?

The fuseable link (under the hood) for the headlights might be bad, also check all your fuses under the dash.

it is more than likeley the switch that makes your headlights go up and down with out turning them on.... i had the EXACT same problem and it turned out to be the contacts on the switch were caked in nasty ****..

if the dash lights aren't on, and they'll go up but not down, it's the "Illum" fuse under the dash board.

you also have no running lights either when this fuse goes, just your headlights and signal lights.

i already changed the fuseable links, and all the fuses in the fuse box under the stering column are good...any other ideas? I havent taken the switch apart yet, and im not sure where the "ilumi" fuse is. Is it located somewhere else, other than the fuse box?

it might be different on the later models, but in my '79 it's "illum"...

someone with an 84-85 chime in!

also, fuses can be blown but not visably blown, like a hairline crack.

it might be the switch too, but my bet would be the fuse for the lights...

ok, i changed the fuse, and i thought i had the problem fixed, but no such luck. I took the switch apart, and it was clean, but i cleaned it any way and put it back.
