Help:Pilot bearing

I pulled my transmission on my 85 because the pilot bearing was out. Purchased a complete clutch kit, but the pilot bearing is too big. The clutch and throwout bearing look right, but the pilot bearing is a sealed bearing which is as big as the end of the shaft. Were there two different sizes of pilot bearings for these? Someone let me know if they have had this experience.
Thanks,
Todd

wut do you mean the pilot bearing was out?

maybe its in there and you didn't take it out yet, thats why it dont fit?

if it dont fit, then its not the right one, as one bearing fits all rotarys 74- UP

Carl.

If you ordered the Victoria British RX-7 Clutch 'Kit', then I got the same bearing with mine that you have - and it's not the right one.

The Pilot Bearing that you're looking for is obviously much smaller, is a needle-bearing (not a sealed ball bearing assembly), and fits inside the eccentric shaft.

I bought my PB from Mazdatrix just to make sure I had the right part.

Keep that spare bearing, however, it likely fits into the idle pulley for the PS. Looked like the same size to me, and since it came with the 'kit'...

I think you'll be happy once you get the right PB in there and get the clutch installed. I was concerned that my non-Mazda Factory clutch wouldn't feel as good, but it really engages smoothly and runs very light on the clutch pedal while still generating a lot of grip on engagement. Reply back if more problems - there's another thread going right now on removal of the old PB, and you'll want to read that thread as well,

I agree with Long Duck. Having done this (many years ago) the pilot bearing is a needle bearing, not a sealed unit. Make sure you have the alignment tool when you go to re-assemble everything, otherwise it's a bitch to get back together.
