Keep side stripping or not?

Should I keep the black side stripping on my car or not? I think it would look better without it. What do you think?

If you do pull the striping, you should smooth out the bumpers also.

Keep in mind: getting those things off cleanly can be hell. The glue seems to be very intimate with the paint.

Someone mentioned soaking the things in gasoline to eat away the glue (??), and I think taking some precaution would be wise.

Chipped paint is the devil.

I like the siding, by the way. As if it matters.

Lose 'em and paint the bumpers' trim the same color...

but like Unreality mentioned - it can be a PITA getting it off, and you risk wrecking the paint underneath...

I am going to repaint my car so I would not worry about chipping the paint. Knowing that would that change your opinion of keep em or not?

Lose it still I think it kills the body lines on the 7 personally....

the little crease that goes all the way down the side of the car is enough, the trim hides that crease...

I've actually seen the entire CREASE filled in... gives the car a VERY smooth look, but I think it's too much for my liking.

If you do loose the trim, atleast fill in the side lights or go with something a little more flush.

I was considering removing the rub strips and then painting the recess black.

I also say lose the trim. It will make the lines of the car much smoother.

Well, in theory it's supposed to stop car doors from hitting your paint in a parking lot, however, now all the newer cars are built like 4x4's compared to the 70's and 80's cars, so the doors hit right above the rub strip anyways....

I agree. I took the trim and lights off of the racecar, and I think with the light holes filled in the car looks much better.

I'd like to see some pics of a car with the crease filled in. I think that would look cool as well, but would be a lot of work.

I took the liberty and the 2 minutes to fill in the crease and side markers in photoshop... not the best job, but it gives you the idea...

If you can't see it, let me know and I'll post it somewhere else... stupid forum and it's not letting us post pictures

I was actually just thinking that...

Yeah, I agree, trim gone, leave crease, and I think you have to have the side markers to make it legal anyways, seeing as how they were factory equipped...

I use shoe polish on the trim in an effort to keep it looking new - There has been many an occasion where I have come out to find large scuff marks on the trim from shopping carts, car doors, or whatever - without the trim, I would have had damaged paint. My car is black so the trim doesn't stand out as it would on a lighter car - I'm leaving it

Without the trim and the crease, the car looks too plain. It says out loud "Something broke off and I couldnt replace it, so I just bought some Bondo."

I voted to remove the trim cause his car is blue, and it would look better without it. Other colors, like red, look good with the black trim, makes a nice contrast I think. But red is about the only color I would keep them on.

I believe that it depending on the color of your car it should stay or go. I agree that they are functional in keeping your car from getting dinged.
