Unhappy Help a noob PLEASE!

Hey guys, got an 84 gsl that I'm working on. I'm having a problem with the fuel filter. The current filter (which I assume is the original) has hose fittings as a part of it. The new one I bought does not. It's the usual type that requires a hollow bolt to go through a ringed type fuel hose fitting. Anyway, I CANNOT for the life of me find this type of fitting (or any that match the thread on the filter). The filter is a Purolator. Any and all help is appreciated BIG time. -Later

If the new filter is a big Can then they may have given you one for an SE. Your replacement should look like the stock one. and have hose Barbs on each end. Or have them at the top with the filter as a bowl under the barbs.

Well, the original was a metal can just like the new one except it had the hose fittings on it. From the searches I've done, the plastic ones like dark frost's avatar are for the 12a engine. Every site and store I've been to shows what I bought as the correct one for the 13b. Am I retarded??? Thanks for the replies btw.

Ok, after checking ur profile, it says you have a GSL... which should be a 12A carbed original engine. If thats still the case, you need the filter thats in my avatar.

Perhaps someone messed up the original fittings, and replaced the filter with a different style, that uses standard clamps. In this case, take the old filter to a parts store, and ask them to find a similar design.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking happened. What's the difference in filters meant for other cars (I'm guessing there is a reason for different filters)? I'm thinking maybe I'll just go to the dealership and see if I can get the fittings there.

You need to remove the ends off of your old filter and put them on your new one. I bought my replacement filter from Mazda and it was like that too. Just remove the banjo bolts and attach the fittings the same way on the new filter as they were on the old one. The banjo bolts may be a little tough to get off. You may need some PB Blaster or some other penetrate.

Good luck.
