Help me with a value
I've been an RX7 owner since February. The car was parked on the street in front of my house. A motorcyclist hit and ran the car but was later caught by the cops. Now his insurance company is looking to total it out, but we are trying to work out a price. He said 600 to start and I told him to call me back with a real price. I'm waiting for a call back.
The Car:
83 Rx7 GS Limited Edition
Paint is in okay shape. Could definitely use some work. No major body faults besides area from wreck
Interior is admittedly in very bad shape.
Car runs fine and was my DD for a 50 mile commute each way everyday
Does have some of the classic problems (leaking oil, starter that takes a few tries to start the car), however the insurance guy did not start the car
Thanks
Also, 119k miles or so, 5 spd

Tell the insurance company to get real. There were only 5000 LE's made in 83.
Counter their offer with $6K. You prolly won't get anywhere near that much, but it will get them away from the low-buck offers.
Seriously, how bad could a bike damage the car, and still be able to run from the scene?

The sad thing is, he hit another car too and laid down the bike. It was at 3 am so I'm pretty sure he was under the influence of something. The cop said he couldn't believe the guy was on the bike, and that he was pretty badly injured.
Basically, bumper, foglights, grille, fenders, maybe hood all need replaced

Other than the bumper cover itself (very pricey) all those parts can be bought new for less than what they are offering.
blackdragonauto.com lists all those parts. Get a list from their website, and give to the insurance company.
Finding a decent parts car is usually even cheaper. The offer so far will barely cover what you could sell the wheels and tires for, assuming it still has the factory BBS mesh 14's. Like I said, only 5000 LE's were made.

What do you guys think an appropriate value for this car is? I was thinking I'd be happy with 1000-1500. The claims guy called back and said 700 was the most they could do. I called my insurance agent (different company) and he seemed to think they were definitely lowballing me. I have a call into my attorney to see what he thinks.
The only problem is that I'm not looking to take this to court. I'm already in the process of a lawsuit with an insurance company on another vehicle

nuff said. if they want to total it, they should offer at least 75% of its sale'able value.
if they want to fix it instead, appearance matters, get the best bodyshops estimate, then get another estimate, turn over all that information, and insist on justice, their is no reason you should be punished for another persons irresponsible actions.

exactly. I have a call into my attorney to get his take on it. I hate insurance companies. this is the second one this year that has tried to screw me over. In all honestly the interior is in bad condition. I'd be fine with 1000 or maybe a bit more. I'm not looking to make a profit or anything but just to basically cover what I bought it for
