hi. i am having trouble with my fuel flow. when i turn the ignition key the fuel pump shuts of when i release the key it resumes running again. i am running a holley setup and a walbro fuel pump. if i spray "quick start in the carb it fires right up and runs but it will not start on it's own.. any help would be appreciated. oh yeah why do i need a dual alt pulley without the air pump? let me know.

It seems to me that the fuel pump shutting off is a little odd, but it shouldnt really be your problem because the float bowls on the carb should be full, so even if the pump isnt running, the carb should still have enough gas in the bowls to start the car and then some.

yeah i think the pump diaphram needs adjustment... by the way why did you have 2 belts on the alt after you removed the smog pump?

well, what size of holley? did the car run for you befor? the dual belt is for JUST in case the belt broke, you will have another on to push your water pump.

what it sounds like, ( i'm no pro) you say you turn your key on and the fuel pump shuts off. when you let go it kicks back on. i ***-u-me that your talkin about the starter posision and the on . anyways, take the filter off , watch the primaries, give it gas. it should shoot a stream of gas into both the primary barrels. if it doesn't, you need to either adjust the acceleration pump or rebuild it. pretty easy to to. just 4 scerw. good luck.

Yeah i've been having problems with the accelerator pump diaprham I just replaced it. it shoots gas in but with no pressure coming from the pump it's not enough i guess to start the car. if i pump the gas about six times with the key in the On position (ie. not the run ) it will start up. maybe that's what i'll have to do. ( my own security system i guess! ha ha..) anyways thanks. oh yeah i just got the Reverse glow gauges they look sweet at night!

So uh, you put the key in the "On" position, pump the pedal a bunch, then turn it to "Start", and then when you let go of the key, it goes back to "On", right? Makes sense to me, but I think that you should figure out why you have to pump it so much. With my Weber I had to pump it once in the "On" position, then start it, that was it, no choke, no nothing.

PS - Are you using a choke at all?

no choke at all i took the "butterfly hinge" off. i mean the car is driveable but i just dont get why the fuel pump cuts out when in the "run" position... makes no sense to me. bad relay...bad wiring, bad switch? i've heard the webbers are a lot more streetable then these holley's I got it from racing beat..... kinda wish i had gone webber. but i was listening to my redneck brother in law who loves his holley.

I don't like the holley because my pump diaphram goes out every 4 month or so...it's kinda annoying....but it produces a tremendous amount of HP with the exhaust setup i have now.. dynoed at the shop at nearly 200hp with all my mods ( I think the Mazdatrix motor helps out a bit too.)
